Abstract:
Haverford Township is a suburb of Philadelphia situated near the wealthy "Main Line" west of the city. It encompasses the community of Havertown and parts of Haverford, Bryn Mawr, Ardmore, Drexel Hill, and Wynnewood in Delaware County, Pennsylvania. The Haverford Township Historical Society photograph collection, 1895-2014, depicts the people, buildings, and scenery of Haverford Township (Delaware County, Pennsylvania). Buildings, especially historic sites, are particularly well represented, but there are also family photographs and photographs of other subjects.

Abstract:
James Wood (1839-1925) was "interested in education, philanthropy, in the various branches of agriculture, in archaeology, history, Indian lore, anthropology, science, in prison reform and above all, in the Bible and religion," (ABS, 2). He was also a business man, serving as President of the Genesee Salt Company in Piffard, New York. The James Wood papers are divided into twelve series: "Biographical Material:" "Agriculture;" Business and Financial Material;" "Collected Quaker Material;" "Correspondence;" "Hugh Barbour Writings and Talks regarding James Wood;" "Journals;" "Organizations;" "Photographs and Albums;" "Political Involvement;" Prison Reform;" and lastly, "Writings by James Wood." This collection contains many materials, including correspondence, photographs, record books, awards, and printed material such as newspapers and pamphlets. Reinhardt, Hawley and Hewes family papers, 1762-1955 (inclusive)

Abstract:
The Reinhardt, Hawley, Hewes and Meredith families are tied together through marriage and their Quaker faith across multiple generations. William Dell Reinhardt, a University of Pennsylvania graduate and doctor, married Rebecca Hawley, a teacher. They had six children: Jesse Hawley Reinhardt, Mary Bailey Reinhardt, Esther Meredith Reinhardt, Lydia Ludwig Reinhardt, Elizabeth Christina Reinhardt, and David Jones Reinhardt. David Jones Reinhardt married Anna Margaret Hewes in 1896. These individuals created the bulk of the material contained within this collection. Howard Comfort was a Quaker merchant in Philadelphia, and often traveled between Philadelphia and various cities in Great Britain on business. A collection of poems compiled by Charles Wood during his time at Haverford College. Archibald Hunter Graham "History of Haverford College Cricket", 1926

Abstract:
This volume is a typed manuscript of "History of Haverford College Cricket" written by Archibald Hunter Graham in 1926. It recounts the history of cricket at Haverford College, listing students who were on the team and detailing some of the important matches. In the end of the volume there is a letter to J. Henry Scattergood from July 14, 1931 from C.M.M. (possibly Charles Chistopher Morrris, Class of 1904). The letter explains that C.M.M. is returning the History of Haverford College Cricket volume, and that if the manuscript is to be made into a book, there would have to be changes. There is also a note that explains that Archibald Hunter Graham graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1895 and wrote a history of cricket at that instutution as well.

Abstract:
This volume is a yearbook from the class of 1924, with images and clippings inside pertaining to their class reunions and the activities of John F. Headly. This book was brought to their 35th and 40th reunions and autographed. Annotations were also added to the book up until 1983, indicating which of the members of that class had passed away. For some of the alumni, a picture of them from these reunions was taped above their photo from 1924 in the yearbook. The scrapbook also includes correspondence and photographs from these reunions. There are also notes inside the yearbook when Headly is mentioned, including the story of how he met his wife, Dorothy Folwell Irwin Headly.

This small volume contains songs and poems collected by Thomas S. Downing Jr. (1852–1926) during his time at Haverford College. Downing, the son of a prosperous farmer in West Whiteland, Chester County, Pennsylvania, attended Haverford from 1869 through 1872. After graduating, Downing returned to Chester County and became a farmer. Various Haverford students wrote verses in Downing's songbook, some traditional and some original compositions. They cover a wide variety of topics and offer insight into the attitudes of Haverford students in the early 1870s.

The commonplace book was created while Winslow was attending Haverford College. Winslow entered the college in 1838 in the Junior class, and transcribed many songs during his time there. He later went on to become a professor, physician, and surgeon in Baltimore, Maryland.

This collection includes papers from Wilmot Rufus Jones's time on the Board of the Corporation of Haverford. This scrapbook contains a variety of materials from John A. Hisey Jr.'s time at Haverford College. Born in Philadelphia on October 31, 1895, to salesman John Alan Hisey Sr. and his wife Gula Hisey, John Hisey Jr. entered Haverford in 1914, as part of the class of 1918. His scrapbook documents his first three years at Haverford, especially his athletic career. The book also provides evidence of the military service that interrupted Hisey's studies in 1917, and of his return to Haverford in 1921, to finish his degree.

Abstract:
Douglas and Dorothy Steere were prominent figures of the Quaker movement in the twentieth century, and deeply committed to the causes of peace and spiritual enrichment. This commitment is evident in their involvement with Quaker-led relief work after World War II, Quaker spiritual retreats, international diplomacy, and Dorothy's work with the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s. Douglas taught philosophy at several institutions including Haverford College, and published extensively on topics in Quaker philosophy and history. This collection contains considerable material related to Douglas's work as a writer, professor, and diplomat. Given his role as a distinguished figure within 20th century Quakerism, this material is also relevant to researchers interested in recent Quaker history as a whole. There is also some fascinating material produced and collected by Dorothy related to the Civil Rights movement, including a letter from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Abstract:
The Sarah Cooper Tatum Hilles family papers house the correspondence of a Quaker family who lived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Woodbury, New Jersey; Wilmington, Delaware; and other surrounding areas from approximately 1840 to 1882. A majority of the letters were written to or by Sarah Cooper Tatum Hilles; her husband, John Smith Hilles; and other Tatum or Hilles family members. There is a small sampling of assorted family papers, dating from 1825 to 1901. Included, among other items, are school report cards of William Samuel Hilles from Haverford College and an 1834 memoir of Anne Cooper Tatum, Sarah Hilles' mother. In addition, there are deeds to properties owned by the Hilles family in Delaware, New Jersey, Illinois and Pennsylvania from 1791 to 1886.

Abstract:
James Estes Baker, Haverford College class of 1956, enjoyed a lengthy career as a member of the United States diplomatic corps, including a period of service for the United Nations. The collection offers insight into Baker's life and diplomatic career, with a large quantity of materials relating to the media scrutiny occasioned by his appointment as the first Black US diplomat to serve in South Africa during Apartheid. Collected materials include biographical information, personal correspondence, periodicals and official reports related to Baker's diplomatic work, photographs, and a scrapbook containing newspaper clippings pertaining to his South Africa appointment. A majority of the materials are dated from 1972 to 1973, at the beginning of his appointment to the Pretoria, South Africa embassy.
