Overview and metadata sections
Founded in 1963, Serendipity Day camp is a seven week program on the Haverford campus for children ages 6 to 13 from the communities surrounding the College, particularly Ardmore. Since its beginning, the emphasis has been on providing services to diverse populations. The camp is staffed by junior counselors from the local community and senior counselors who are students at Haverford and other colleges. In its early days, many Haverford faculty were involved with the camp. Camp activities include sports, making art, cooking, swimming, theater and dance, and field trips to museums and recreation areas.
The materials in the Serendipity Day Camp records document the camp from the 1980s to 2000s. Newsletters and publicity provide information on the advertisement of the camp. Program information, songbooks, activities, and upper bunk materials show the types of activities campers engage in. There is a small amount of financial information. Materials for counselors include documentation for training and orientation, as well as evaluations of the camp from parents. Much of the collection is comprised of photographs, almost all of which are unlabeled and undated. There are also several video tapes of the camp and drama night.
Materials are arranged by topic.
