Overview and metadata sections

Lloyd Balderson was born in Falls, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, on July 21, 1818, the son of Mark Balderston and Elizabeth Lloyd. He entered Haverford College in the junior class in 1837, and left during his senior year in 1830. He went on to become a teacher, farmer, and contributor to agricultural and other journals. He married Catharine Canby in 1843. He died in Colora, Maryland, on December 23, 1907.

This collection contains two volumes compiled by Lloyd Balderston while he was a student at Haverford College between 1837 and 1839. One contains prose and poems written by himself and other Haverford students, and the other is his notebook with handwritten essays and annotations.

The volumes in this collection are arranged chronologically.

"Specimens of Composition Prose & Poetical of the Students of Haverford School Copied by Llyod Balderston" was donated to Special Collections, Haverford College in 1935 by Henry L. Balderston.

The notebook was presented to Haverford College in May, 1938 by Lloyd Balderston's great-grandson Robert L. Balderston, Haverford College class of 1939.
