Walter Willits Pharo was born in Tuckerton, New Jersey, on May 31, 1855, and entered Haverford College in 1871. In his junior year at the College, Pharo gave an oration titled "Richelieu" to his class. He was graduated in 1875, and spent his life as an iron manufacturer and dealer. He married Elizabeth Bellerby Wilson on October 30, 1894. He died in Haverford, Pennsylvania on October 10, 1919.

The collection contains one songbook written bu Walter Willits Pharo during his time at Haverford College (1871-1875). The songbook begins with an entry from 1872 and ends in 1874. There is an index of songs at the end of the songbook for reference.

Materials are arranged chronologically by creation.

The Walter Willits Pharo songbook was donated to Special Collections, Haverford College in 1947 by Elizabeth W. Pharo.
