Overview and metadata sections
Quaker Affairs is the office at Haverford charged with "nurturing Haverford's spiritual communities and living Quaker heritage." Quaker Affairs is closely intertwined with Religion and Spiritual Life; the director of Quaker Affairs is also the Director of Religious and Spiritual Life. This position has been held by Emily Higgs and Walter Sullivan. Quaker Affairs sponsors numerous campus programs and events, including the Friend in Residence (begun in 2011) and Religion and Spiritual Life week.
Quaker Affairs records document elements of Quakerism on Haverford's campus from 1968 to 2024. Materials include published pamphlets and reports, descriptions of the director's position, and discussions of the Quaker community and traditions at Haverford. Materials related to the student Quaker community document the development of Quaker House and student experiences on campus. Materials also reflect conferences of the Friends Council on Education and Friends Association of Higher Education, and Quaker Affairs involvement in the TriCo Summer Institute, which focuses on identity, multiculturalism, and social justice. Event posters and materials document events sponsored by Quaker Affairs for a variety of audiences. There is information on Interfaith Encounters Alternative Spring Break and Pendle Hill retreats for students. Miscellaneous notes document meetings and events and are not clearly labeled.
Materials are arranged topically.
