Overview and metadata sections

John Alan Hisey Jr. was born in Philadelphia on October 31, 1895, to salesman John Alan Hisey Sr. and his wife Gula Hisey. John Hisey Jr. entered Haverford in 1914, with the class of 1918. While at the college, Hisey participated in the Cap and Bells club and ran on the track team, which he captained his junior year. In 1917, Hisey's school career was interrupted by military service as a second lieutenant in the Seventy-Ninth Division of the army, then stationed at Camp Meade, Maryland. In 1921, he returned to Haverford and completed a bachelor's of science. After graduating, Hisey pursued a variety of jobs around the United States. He died on October 6, 1990.

This scrapbook contains a variety of materials from John A. Hisey Jr.'s time at Haverford College. Photographs of Haverford sports teams and newspaper clippings about their games attest to Hisey's interest in the college's athletics and to his own career on the track team. Hisey also pasted tickets to sporting events, invitations to dances, and programs from shows, Haverford commencements, and other events into the book. These are accompanied by photographs of Haverford's campus, newspaper clippings related to the college, and Hisey's report cards. When these materials mention Hisey, they generally refer to him by his middle name, Alan. The scrapbook also features photographs from Hisey's time at Camp Tecumseh in New Hampshire; a program for the 1917 Thanksgiving dinner of the Headquarter Troop Seventy-Ninth Division stationed at Camp Meade, Maryland; and communications from the Little Egg Harbor Yacht Club in New Jersey.

The scrapbook is arranged in roughly chronological order.

The John A. Hisey Jr. scrapbook (HCS.003.007), was donated to Special Collections, Haverford College in 1998 by J. H. Richter.
