Wilmot Rufus Jones was born in Stamford, Connecticut, on May 5, 1902. He attended Mill Brook School and entered Haverford College as a freshman in 1919. He was very active on campus: Varsity football, (1, 2, 3, 4); Numerals, (2); " H," (3, 4); Track squad, (2,3,4); Numerals, (3); Corporation Scholarship, (1, 2, 3); Student Council, (4); Y.M.C.A. Cabinet, (3, 4); Vice President, (3); Haverford Neivs Board, (2, 3, 4); Editor-in-chief, (4); Stage Manager, " Menaechmi"; Class Vice-President, (1); Class President, (3); Secretary Athletic Association; Athletic Cabinet, (3, 4); Social Science Club; Scientific Society; Press Club; President of Press Club, (4); Triangle Society; Founders' Club, Vice-President and Secretary, (4); President of the Intercollegiate Newspaper Association. After graduating in 1923, he got his master's in arts and sciences at Harvard Univeristy (1926-1927). He went on to serve on the Alumni Council and Haverford Board on Managers for many years, working with alumni and the board throughout the period 1930-1970. He was also involved in Haverford College's chapter of Phi Beta Kappa. Outside of Haverford, he worked at numerous schools around the east coast (Connecticut, New York, D.C., and Delaware) in administrative positions (Master/Principal). Eventually, he settled at the Friends School in Wilmington, Delaware, and worked with the Council for Delaware Education. He also served as President of the South China Library Association. Jones was also a very engaged Quaker, serving on assignment for foreign service in Europe for the American Friends Service Committee in 1924 and 1946. He was then a delegate at the Friends World Conference in Oxford, England in 1952. Jones married Barbara Hopkins in 1929, and had a daughter, Lee Jones, in 1932, and a son, Wilmot Rufus Jones III, in 1935.

This collection includes papers from Wilmot Rufus Jones's time on the Board of the Corporation of Haverford. There is also significant material from his alumni activities, particularly alumni donations and his term a the Class of 1923 Alumni Representative. These include correspondence, meeting minutes, reports, publications, and miscellaneous papers. There are similar materials from Phi Beta Kappa, as well as some correspondence and reports from his time on the Council for Delaware Education. Additionally, there is correspondence and reports from Jones's days serving on the Board of Managers and working with the Corporation of Haverford College. Materials on the Executive Committee, Committee on Committees, and the Standing Nominating Committee are included.
