Overview and metadata sections

At the first meeting of the organization in 1899, Professor Edwards explained the goal of the group would be "not to have formal papers, but five, ten, or fifteen minute talks, to be followed by general discussions", which, he thought, "would be far more profitable than lengthy papers". Participation in the program was to be entirely voluntary. The organization s"hould be in the hands of the students, and governed by a simple, informal constitution. There should be an executive committee, or board, to look after the arrangement of meetings and programs." Their meetings consisted of talks, primarily by Haverford students and faculty, followed by discussion.
