Overview and metadata sections
Samuel Morris (1827-1905) was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of Quakers Samuel Buckley Morris and Hannah Perot Morris. Samuel Morris matriculated at Haverford College in 1845, then went on to learn farming. He married Lydia Spencer in 1853. Morris was recorded a minister in the Society of Friends in 1864. In 1876, he made a religious mission to visit North American indigenous groups, later embarking on a similar mission to Europe and Australia. He was president of the managers of Friends Asylum from 1888 to 1902.
This collection contains notebooks filled with notes from Samuel Morris during his time as a student at Haverford College. These include a diary, a notebook with grammar and chemistry notes, a notebook with literary excerpts, and two books with minutes or accounts of the Lathe committee of the Loganian Society. There is also a volume with an account of a trip that Morris took through Pennsylvania.
The volumes in this collection are arranged in chronological order.

Collection Inventory
Gives an account of a trip through various towns in Pennsylvania over the course of two weeks. . The title page reads, "R.B. Haines presented by his affectionate friends Sam. Morris."
A small handwritten diary and a typed manuscript transcription. He talks about writing letters to his family members, doing school work, playing football, and attending meetings of the Loganian society. He also recounts celebrating Christmas and New Years at Haverford.

This is a small notebook that contains notes written by Morris during his junior year at Haverford College relating to grammer and chemistry. In the beginning he also lists the names of other students at Haverford. The cover of the notebook reads, "Samuel Morris Haverford College 1843. Songs etc. by H.D. Gregory"
