Anne Hannum Cresson was born around 1847 to Walter Cresson and Alice Hannum. The Cresson family of Philadelphia is descended from Pierre Cresson, a French Huguenot, born in 1609 or 1610. The Anne H. Cresson family papers, 1820-1900, contain the genealogical research of Anne H. Cresson, along with original papers from various family members.

Joshua L. Baily account book, 1794-1915 (inclusive)

Abstract:
This volume was originally used as an account book, from 1794 to 1795, and was later repurposed as a diary or timeline of events, dated from 1826 to 1915. The section of the volume that acts as an account book includes an index, in which individuals are organized alphabetically, and entries record amounts paid or owned, the goods purchased, and the currency used. Goods listed are mainly dry goods and lumber, including: flour, "middling" (bulk goods of medium grade), hog feed, cornmeal, buckwheat, rye meal, and wooden boards. The second section of the volume acts as a timeline and diary for Joshua L. Baily. Included are entries concerning current events, such as terms of various presidents, the Orthodox-Hicksite separation, the emergence of the "Mormons" and their migration west, records of correspondence sent and received, and events in the Civil War and World War I.

Elizabeth Pearsall Frazier Family Papers, 1769-1914 (bulk 1807-1848) (inclusive)

Abstract:
This small collection of Quaker family papers appears to have been collected and preserved by Elizabeth Pearsall Frazier (1869-1957) and her daughter, Elizabeth P. Frazier (b. 1902). They include family genealogy, some correspondence, manuscript writings, financial papers, two wills, and reference material. The Pearsall side and its allied families, especially Parrish, were Quakers of long standing. Prior to 1800 the Pearsalls were a New York family, but after that they intermarried with Philadelphia Friends and made their homes in the Philadelphia area. There were strong ties with Burlington, NJ, and some of its Quaker families, including the Dillwyns and their relations. The bulk of this collection dates between 1807 and 1848. Hannah B. Lester (b. 1815) was a member of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) who lived in Quakertown, Pennsylvania. Abram Carn was the proprietor of a general store and post office in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania. The Carn-Buchanan family papers, 1817-1897, are made up of personal correspondence of Hannah B. Lester and three receipt books attributed to Abram Carn and an unknown person with the surname Donut.

Abstract:
A disownment is the involuntary termination of membership in a meeting, when a member of a meeting acts contrary to established discipline. Reasons for disownment have changed over time, often reflecting contemporary societal mores. Today, very few people are disowned. This collection consists of miscellaneous minutes of disownment, from various meetings and regarding various Friends, collected by the Friends Historical Library over time. It contains a mix of original documents and copies.

Abstract:
The Friends' Reading Room Association was founded in 1835, and dissolved in 1842. Its Constitution, included in the minutes, states its purpose: "An Institution in a central part of the city, which shall be furnished with a judcious selection of books, maps and periodical publications, calculated to promote moral and religous improvement, a knowledge of the principles and history of the Society of Friends and an acquiantance with the arts, science and general literature." This volume contains the minutes of the Friends' Reading Room Association, from 1835 - 1842, from the organization of the association, until its resolution and a register of members of the Western District Monthly Meeting, Philadelphia, from 1814 - 1886.

John Greenleaf Whittier was an American Quaker poet and editor, as well as an involved abolitionist. He was a delegate to the Anti-Slavery Society in 1833, a member of the State Legislature in 1835, founded the antislavery Liberty party in 1840, and ran for Congress in 1842. Topics covered in Whittier's letterbook include news of health and family, as well as discussions of contributions to "The Non-Slaveholder" and discussions of English Friends.

The Allinson family scrapbook is largely comprised of clippings on poetry, temperance, prison reform, reform for juvenile delinquents, and anti-slavery. The volume also includes an obituary for Samuel Allinson.

Abstract:
This collection is comprised of the single volume letterbook of the Hoskins family. The primary correspondents in the volume are members of the Hoskins family, though quite a number of the letters are directed to Benjamin H. Warder. Most of the letters were written in the 18th century, but some are from the 19th century. A number of them are religious in nature, while others deal with service in the ministry or visiting Friends, and some deal with states of health and mortality. The letters cover a broad range of topics, including, but not limited to Quakers and trade in Barbados, outbreaks of small pox, the opening of Native American schools, and the Orthodox-Hicksite separation. Some prominent letter writers include: Martha Allinson, George Dillwyn, Thomas Evans, Rebecca Jones, James Mott, Elizabeth Robson, Charity Rotch, John Warder, Nicholas Waln, and Daniel Wheeler.
