This collection spans Neville Strumpf's personal and professional life, in particular her tenure at the University of Pennsylvania. Documents include personal correspondence with her parents and with friends, her career at Penn, the development of the Center for Gerontological Nursing, and her time as Interim Dean. Also includes some of the numerous publications and papers she wrote and, most notably, her research work with reducing restraint use among the frail elderly in nursing homes.

The Teaching Nursing Home Program sheds light on the innovated national project funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and administered by the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Nursing to improve nursing home care for the elderly, develop university nursing education, and inspire nurses to explore gerontology. Documents include project correspondence, minutes, annual reports, and other administrative records. It also includes the individual universities’ reports and findings during their funded years as well as the unfunded applications of other universities.
