Abstract:: Fascinating notations of an amateur scientist whose profession and training was as a man of the cloth who acquired a fine microscope and was very diligent in making observations of algae, mosses and blood of animals and humans. Reverend Kitchel made beautiful colored illustrations of his observations and consulted with others regarding his observations. He classed his observations as field notes. He and his family had a number of connections to Lehigh University.

Abstract:: Four progress reports describing a little known forestry project created by Bethlehem Steel Corporation during the late 1950s and 1960s on Bethlehem's South Mountain in order to manage the woods for construction of a research center. The project was known as the South Mountain Research Center, later named as Homer Research Laboratories. The center was established to deal with timber management and land reclamation.

Abstract:: This collection is comprised of over 6,500 photographs and negatives depicting testing and related activities in the Fritz Engineering Laboratory on the campus of Lehigh University. The bulk of the collection depicts testing conducted during the mid-to-late 1950s into the early 1960s. Additionally, the collection includes graphs and diagrams of testing results, some images from Lab related events, and some images of structures that illustrate design elements or problems. Abstract:: This collection contains a selection of postcards featuring bridges throughout the United States, Canada, China, and Scotland. With 86 postcards in all, the majority display scenes of American bridges. There is a significant number of postcards from California and New York with notable attention placed on the Golden Gate Bridge in particular. Postcards range from the 1910s to the 1970s and are either photographs or chromolithographs of a particular bridge, with one exception being a dam. All are printed in either black and white or color.

Birkinbine Engineering Company records, 1840-1963 (inclusive)

Abstract:: The Birkinbine Engineering Company got its start through Henry P. M. Birkinbine. His son, John, gained early engineering experience through various water supply projects in and around Philadelphia; this experience later helped direct the Birkinbine Engineering Company’s involvement in many water-related projects around the country in the late 19th century as part of the improved public sanitation initiatives. The Birkinbine firm also specialized in mining engineering, both in the United States and Mexico. John also had a firm grounding in mechanical engineering through his work in the Weimer Machine Works in Lebanon, Pennsylvania. John’s interest in manufacturing pig iron from charcoal, combined with his knowledge of hydraulics, catalyzed his concern for the condition of forests in Pennsylvania and he became one of the founders of the Pennsylvania Forestry Association. Mary Wickham Bond papers on the "real" James Bond, 1907-1997 (inclusive)

Abstract:: The lives of James and Mary Bond, a Philadelphia ornithologist and author, respectively, were altered the day that author Ian Fleming, a bird lover who was familiar with Bond’s book, “The Birds of the West Indies,” appropriated James Bond’s name for his fictional spy character. The resulting confusion prompted Mary Wickham Bond to write “How 007 Got His Name,” in 1966, in which she tells the story of the real James Bond. This collection consists of Mary Wickham Bond’s collection of information regarding her husband, her own works on the writing, publishing and promoting of her books about her husband, and David Contosta’s writings about her husband.
