Abstract:
Eight scrapbooks of newspaper clippings related to German Americans and German-American issues, dating from 1885 to 1943, and concentrated in the period 1905 to 1938. Most of the clippings are from the New Yorker Staats-Zeitung, the New Yorker Herold, or the New York Times. Subjects include international news, general news, politics, obituaries, bequests, business, singing clubs, religion, and poems. The obituary clippings primarily cover prominent German Americans of the time and some Germans.

The collection consists of eight scrapbooks filled with newspaper clippings on German-American people and issues from 1885 to 1943. The articles are from several different newspapers, including the New York Times, the New Yorker Staats-Zeitung and the New Yorker Herold. The articles are mostly in German, with some in English. The pages of the scrapbooks are sequentially numbered throughout the volumes; however, the articles are not arranged chronologically or in any apparent order. The range of subjects includes international news, local news items, politics, history, obituaries, bequests, business, teachers, theater, breweries, singing clubs, book reviews, and poems. Many obituaries are included, primarily on prominent German Americans of the time and some Germans.

Probably transferred to the German Society of Pennsylvania with other holdings from the National Carl Schurz Association.
