Overview and metadata sections

Besides serving as the twenty-eighth president of the United States from 1913-1921 Woodrow Wilson was a member of the original faculty of Bryn Mawr College from 1885-1888.

The Woodrow Wilson papers house papers related to Woodrow Wilson, 28th President of the United States, and a member of the original faculty at Bryn Mawr College, teaching history and politics from 1885-1888. The collection spans from 1885 to 1956, and primarily consists of biographical/historical information and materials related to the Centennial Celebration.

The collection is divided into three series: "Series I: Biographical and Historical Information," "Series II: Miscellaneous notes, articles, etc." and "Series III: Centennial Celebration Documents and Correspondence."

"Series I: Biographical and Historical Information" contains various Woodrow Wilson biographical materials, including correspondence and publications from the Woodrow Wilson Foundation, newspaper clippings, biographical articles, pamphlets, etc. "Series II: Miscellaneous notes, articles, etc." contains Woodrow Wilson's letter to Almont Barnes together with the article under discussion, "The Study of Administration." "Series III: Centennial Celebration Documents and Correspondence" includes material about the 1956 celebration at Bryn Mawr College of Wilson's Centennial. Arthur Dudden transferred the centennial material to the Archives in 1975. Dudden, along with Gertrude Leighton and others, was responsible for gathering materials from various sources in order to host the centennial commemorative event. The Centennial Celebration in 1956 marked the centenary of Wilson's birth and gave people a new and clearer vision of Wilson then had previously been possible.

These papers provide insight into President Wilson's life as an educator prior to his political career. There are certainly much larger and more complete collections of Wilson-related materials, but this collection would be a useful resource for Bryn Mawr students and faculty.

Bulk of the material was gathered by Arthur Dudden for Woodrow Wilson Centennial Celebration held around the country during the year 1956.
