Abstract:

Nancy Dreher was a member of the American College of Bankruptcy, Fellow of the American Bar Association, and member of the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges (NCBJ), where she served as Editor-in-Chief of the American Bankruptcy Law Journal from 1994 to 1998. Dreher also edited the NCBJ publication Conference News from 1999 to 2000, a period during which the newsletter underwent a thorough restructuring. The Nancy C. Dreher collection includes selected issues of the American Bankruptcy Law Journal, which Dreher edited from 1994 to 1998, and "Conference News," the official NCBJ newsletter that was edited by Dreher from 1999 to 2000. Kronish, Lieb, Weiner, and Hellman LLP Bankruptcy Judges Lawsuit files, 1984-1994 (inclusive)

Abstract:

On July 11, 1984, William Foley, Legislative Affairs Officer of the Administrative Office of the United States Courts ("Administrative Office"), issued a memorandum stating that the Administrative Office would not pay bankruptcy judges because, in its opinion, Congress had acted unlawfully by awarding retroactive terms of office to the normally presidentially-appointed bankruptcy judges. In response, on July 13, 1984, four bankruptcy judges sued Foley and the Administrative Office for abuse of power. The case became commonly known as Lundin v. Foley. The law firm of Kronish, Lieb, Shainswit, Weiner and Hellman (later, Kronish, Lieb, Weiner and Hellman) represented the bankruptcy judges. Richard Lieb served as the primary attorney on the case. Abstract:

This collection contains a brief look into the life and career of Ahron Jay Cristol, the chief judge of the Florida bankruptcy court, a lecturer in law of naval warfare, and a former US Navy aviator and lawyer in the Judge Advocate General's Corps. The collection contains series of Cristol's work as a legal scholar and bankruptcy judge, including testimony given before the US House of Representatives, various speeches given at events and lectures, and a small series of legal opinions written by Cristol, including some written in poetic verse. Also included are some audio tapes of interviews given by Cristol and a series of personal photographs commemorating his career and service.

Daniel Glosband was one of the primary draftsmen of Chapter 15 of the Bankruptcy Code, which was enacted as part of The Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act (BAPCPA) in 2005. Drafting began in as early as 1997. The Daniel Glosband Papers: 2005 Bankruptcy Reform, is a small collection comprised of five series: Administrative Records; Drafts, 2000; Drafts, 1999; United States Advisory Group; and Chapter 15 Rules.

Daniel Glosband is the International Bar Association's official liaison of the Creditors Rights and Insolvency Committee to the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) and was one of the primary draftsmen of the UNCITRAL Model Law on Cross-Border Insolvency. Since its establishment in 1966, UNCITRAL has been recognized as the core legal body of the United Nations system in the field of international trade law. This collection consists of nine series covering correspondence, code references, drafts, articles, Glosband's notes, organizational reports, and Glosband's business travel documents dated 1888, 1937-1938, 1978-2005 and undated.

Abstract:

The William Warren papers (Federal Tax Projects) consists of Warren's papers related to the Federal Income, Estate, and Gift Tax project and Federal Income Tax Statute. In the mid-1940s, the American Law Institute (ALI) set about to analyze the law as it related to income tax. Known as the Income Tax Project, the primary objective was not to codify the law but to provide analysis of issues as they related to the United States' increasingly complex tax code. The Federal Income, Estate, and Gift Tax Project (as it would eventually be known) consisted of a series of non-binding recommendations to students, teachers, litigators, and legislators as they dealt with the evolving tax code. The ALI attributes Warren as the Associate Chief Reporter on the Federal Income, Estate, and Gift Tax project. This collection does not contain material related to Warren's work beyond the ALI's Federal Tax Projects and is arranged in two series within 72 bound volumes.

Roswell B. Perkins was President of the American Law Institute from 1980 to 1993 and served as Chair of the Council from 1993 to 2008. An expert in the field of corporate governance, Perkins played a major role in the drafting of the Principles of Corporate Governance: Analysis and Recommendations. The collection includes Perkins' files on this project as well as correspondence and subject files from his time as President of the American Law Institute.
