This group of papers relating to the Thornton family, all copies, were made available to Harriet Frorer Durham, a Quaker writer who was working on a biography of Dr. William Thornton (1759-1828) of Philadelphia. William Thornton of England, Dr. Thorton's descendent, provided the papers. The collection contains genealogical material compiled for Dr. William Thornton and photocopies of business and legal papers (1673-1802).

The materials relate to Americans of Swedish descent, Sweden and Swedish culture, the founding of the Swedish American Historical Museum, and associated topics.

Byberry Library local history collection, 1682-2002 (inclusive)

Abstract:
The first meeting house for members of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) in Byberry, Philadelphia was built in the 1690s. Byberry Monthly Meeting was formally established by Abington Quarterly Meeting out of Horsham Monthly Meeting in 1810, and is currently active as of 2011. At the heart of the Byberry Library local history collection are several dozen scrapbooks which are filled with secondary and primary materials relating to local history topics. The collection also includes deeds and real estate records, marriage certificates, numerous maps, and a number of genealogies of varying length. There are also records from several local businesses and schools, such as financial records, minutes, and other administrative records.

Abstract:
Christ Church is an Episcopal church located in the Old City section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was established in 1695 as a condition of King Charles II of England's 1681 Charter to William Penn, which allowed for the formation of Church of England congregations in Pennsylvania. Several notable Philadelphians attended services at Christ Church including Benjamin Franklin, Betsy Ross, and members of the Continental Congress. Christ Church records, 1695-2016, document Christ Church and its parish and congregation. The records consist of vestry minutes, parish records, accounting and financial records, deeds, architectural drawings, photographs, and audiovisual materials. In addition, there are materials from parish organizations and affiliated institutions such as Christ Church Hospital, Episcopal School, Christ Church Burial Ground, and Christ Church Preservation Trust. Harman D. Rees was (1873-1964) was a farmer and active public servant in Charlestown Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania. He wrote a detailed history of the township, Historical Sketches of Charlestown Township, completed around 1943. The Harman D. Rees family papers, 1710-1964 (bulk 1890-1964), include scrapbooks, newspaper issues and clippings, research notes, correspondence, family papers, hand drawn maps and blueprints, photographs, and other documents relating to Rees's research interests--Charlestown Township history, birds, plants, and Rees family genealogy--as well as farming practices, family life, municipal affairs, and additional topics.

Frederick Graff maps, technical drawings, and plans on Philadelphia (Pa.) water engineering projects, circa 1683-1875

Abstract:
Frederick Graff (1775-1847) was a hydraulic engineer best known for designing Philadelphia, Pennsylvania's landmark Fairmount Water Works in the 1810s. He subsequently served as consulting engineer for water works in New York, Boston, and many other cities. After Graff's death in 1847, his son, Frederick Graff, Jr. (1817-1890), took over the role of chief engineer for the Philadelphia Water Department. Frederick Graff maps, technical drawings, and plans on Philadelphia (Pa.) water engineering projects, circa 1683-1875, consist of maps, drawings, and plans related to both the elder and younger Graff's work as water engineers. Most of the materials relate to the Fairmount Water Works, but some pertain to other water engineering projects in Philadelphia.

Historic Waynesborough collection, 1712-1990 (inclusive)

Abstract:
The Wayne family purchased the land on which the home "Historic Waynesborough" still stands in 1724 and the family's descendants continued to own it until 1965. One of Waynesborough's residents was Major General Anthony Wayne, a Revolutionary War hero, who was also instrumental in the Northwest Indian War (1785–1795). The Historic Waynesborough collection, 1712-1990, consists largely of secondary-source materials, such as photocopies, but there is also a significant amount of primary documents. Materials pertain largely to various members of the Wayne family and include photographs, financial documents, correspondence, genealogical research, and various other documents.

Old York Road Historical Society deeds collection, circa 1680-1950

Abstract:
Montgomery County, situated in southeastern Pennsylvania and established in 1784 out of the western portion of Philadelphia County, has played an important role in U.S. history. Since its founding, it has experienced "booming industry and manufacturing, rich farm fields, advanced transportation, artistic endeavors and unique religious beliefs." The history of the area of eastern Montgomery County has been documented significantly through the collecting efforts of the Old York Road Historical Society. The Old York Road Historical Society deeds collection, circa 1680-1950, consists of about 600 deeds, indentures, and property records dating from the 17th century to the 20th century. Most are from the region of eastern Montgomery County.

John Woolman (1720-1772) was one of the most influential ministers in the history of the Religious Society of Friends. St. David's Church (Radnor, Pa.) records, 1860-2015 (bulk) 1678-2015 (inclusive)

Abstract:
St. David's Episcopal Church in Wayne, Radnor Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania traces its origins to 1700, when services were held in the homes of local residents. The original church building, still extant on the property, was constructed in 1715, and continues to be used as a place of worship. In 1956, a new building, known as the "chapel" was constructed. A new and larger chapel was built in 2006 and the 1956 chapel was reconfigured as a fellowship hall and renamed St. David's Hall. As of 2016, St. David's Episcopal Church continues to live into its mission: "to know God in Jesus Christ and to make Christ known to others" and to expand its congregation. It also remains committed to continuing worship and maintaining and increasing its education activities and outreach ministries. The Logans were a prominent Philadelphia family dating to 1699, when James Logan (1679-1751), the family patriarch, arrived in Philadelphia to serve as Secretary of the Pennsylvania colony. Through work in trade and politics, Logan and his descendants were intimately involved in the development of colonial Pennsylvania and, later, the fledging United States. The Logan family papers, 1700-circa 1850, consist of scattered documents related to the Logan family and their home, Stenton (in Germantown, Philadelphia, Pa.). It includes letters, deeds and estate papers, three cookbooks, and various other documents.

Abstract:
Westtown School in Chester County, Pennsylvania is the oldest continuously operating coeducational boarding school in the United States. It was founded by the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) in 1799 with the goal of educating Quaker children in an environment that fostered moral development consistent with their religious ideals. The Westtown School records, 1682-2013 (bulk 1799-2013), include records created by Westtown Boarding School, including its various administrative offices, Board of Trustees, faculty, and students. It is organized into nine series: "19th century records," "20th century records," "Board of Trustees," "Farm and Orchard," "Student papers," "Westtown Old Scholars Association and Westtown Alumni Association," "Subject files," "Special formats," and "Publications." Newbold-Fox Family Papers, 1710-1960 (inclusive)

Abstract:
The collection is composed largely of property and legal papers which descended in the Quaker Newbold and Fox families of Burlington County, New Jersey, and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Newbolds were among the earliest settlers and prominent landowners in West Jersey. The Fox family of Philadelphia was descended from Justinian Fox who emigrated to America in 1685. In 1796, the family purchased a number of tracts of land in western Pennsylvania from the Commonwealth. A descendant, Samuel Mickle Fox (1851-1905) was a successful estates lawyer and antiquarian with an interest in family history. He married Elizabeth Richards Newbold in 1890, and their daughter inherited the records, genealogical research, and miscellaneous papers which include some correspondence and photographs. Of special interest are the property records concerning the Cedar Swamp Tract, New Jersey.

Malin Family Papers, 1685-1881 (inclusive)

Abstract:
The collection is largely composed of financial, legal and real estate documents relating to the Malin property in Upper Providence, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. Randall Malin of Cheshire, England, purchased 250 acres from William Penn in 1681. The bulk of the papers are related to the tenure of his grandson William Malin (1727-1803). His son Abner Malin (1752-1848) married Rachel Ogden in 1803 and was disowned by Chester Monthly Meeting in 1805. Other papers concern their son Stephen O. Malin (1806-1892) who continued to farm the property, family estate papers, and a small number of letters received by Rachel Ogden Malin.
