Diary, 1855-1870, of a Philadelphia Hicksite woman, daughter of Joseph and Sarah (Shaw) Truman, and niece of the Hicksite minister, George Truman. Entries for 1870 include mention of Lucretia Mott and account of Yearly Meeting that includes discussion of birth control.

Source unknown, author unknown.
AMs compiled by an Indian member of the Wider Quaker Fellowship. Signature is indecipherable, but sent to a niece in NYC and found in FWCC records 2017.

Typed transcript edited by John and Barbara Baker, 1983. 2 copies. A native of Yorkshire, England, Baker emigrated to the U.S. with his wife Elizabeth Hall Baker, in 1833. They settled in Macedon where they were received on certificate at Farmington Monthly Meeting. Baker's diary describes his trip through Albany to Buffalo and Canada, with travel descriptions and attendance at Quaker meetings. Gift of NYYM, 1997.

She served as matron to Winnebago tribe in Nebraska in 1869. Account presented to the Woman's Club of Jamaica, NY. AMs and typed copy. She was the daughter of John and Amy (Pearsall) Seaman and member of New York Monthly Meeting (H). She married George S. Brinckerhoff in 1878. Gift of NYYM, 1997
A spiritual diary, Philadelphia. MS copy made by James Bringhurst. 60 pp.
Typescript. Recollections of Kathleen M. Brookhouse, a young English Quaker woman, about her life and work in Germany on the eve of World War II. She describes the influence of Nazi ideology in universities and churches; various kinds of Nazi propaganda; her meetings with Quakers in Germany; and the effect of the Munich and Czechoslovakian crises. Brookhouse visited many Jewish families, and was in Stuttgart during Kristallnacht (November 9-10, 1938); she describes the terror and suffering of the Jews, and saw them being taken away to concentration camps; she also discusses the German people's fear of speaking openly of these matters.

In this journal, Elizabeth Bunting writes of visiting sick Civil War soldiers in the hospital at Willets Point (Queens, NY). Information about patients, their illnesses, and their stories are included.
Samuel Bunting of Darby, Pa. Collection of 18 AMss volumes and commonplace book with detailed entries. A small volume "Humble Life from 1810 to 1823 both included" which contains early memories written in 1846 was transcribed in 2016. Journal
Mary Roberts Calhoun was the granddaughter of Emmor Roberts (1831-1908) and Martha Lippincott Roberts (d. 1918.) Emmor served on the Swarthmore College Board of Managers, and many generations of the family attended Swarthmore College. Mary Calhoun (1907-1985) was the daughter of Horace Roberts (1868-1937) and his second wife She and her husband were both Swarthmore College Class of 1929. Emmor's wife, Martha Roberts, helped Horace at home with his young children, and Mary knew her grandparents well and their home.

A Journal of a Religious Visit to Germany and Holland by William Farrer as Companion to David Sands in Company with William Savery and Benjamin Johnson and Also George Dillwyn and Wife as far as Pyrmont. Manuscript, 1796-1797. 1 bound volune, 160 pages.
Farrer was a member of the party of Friends who toured Germany and Holland from August 1796 to February 1797. The party included David Sands of Cornwall, NY; William Savery and Benjamin Johnson of Philadelphia, PA; and George and Sarah Dillwyn of Burlington, NJ. The sole Englishman in the party, William Farrer (1738-1826) was an Elder of Liverpool Meeting, and had earlier guided Sands and other American Quakers through the British Isles.
The manuscript volume contains details about the Quaker communities the group visited. In a lengthy appendix he listed the names and occupations of "sundry people we obtain'd some acquaintance with" in each town, including silk weavers, butchers, schoolmasters, cobblers, maids, shopkeepers, spinsters, soldiers, and clergymen."

Ms copy of her spiritual journey and travels in the ministry to about 1756. Jane Fenn was a Quaker minister, born in England. She came to America in 1712 as an indentured servant and married in 1738. The diary contains regular brief entries covering family events and Hannah's activities which included attending Quaker meetings as well as lyceum and other local Protestant services. See the transcription for additional detail.

AMsS and photocopy. Journal of a Chester County, Pennsylvania, farmer, which records his attendance at Quaker meetings, family events, farm and business activities. It includes his opinion on Quaker schools, mention of Lucretia Mott's sermon at Cherry Street Meeting in 1840 and Daniel Webster's speech at Wilmington, and the marriage to his second wife Sarah Scarlett at Kennett in 1841. After purchasing a farm in Chester County, Johnson transferred his membership from Wilmington Monthly Meeting to London Grove Monthly Meeting in 1840. Gift of Hadassah Moore Leeds Holcombe.

There are (2) indices in the back of the book: subjects and disembodied spirits (everyone from St. Paul to John Jacob Astor, as well as many Quaker worthies, and some family members); a list of scripture quotations proving spiritualism; and "A Memorial of J. Daughter of John and Susan H. (England) Lamborn, born in or near Kennett Square, Pa. Not a member of Society of Friends but attended Quaker meetings as well as other worship services. During much of period of the journal she attended Ercildoun Seminary for Young Ladies. Elizabeth Passmore lived in Edgmont, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. This deeply religious journal includes prayerful reflections and struggles. There are many references to attending Quaker meetings and to specific Friends. Also included are family updates and descriptions of illnesses and medical treatments. One event of interest is a devastating fire in her house and a burglary in which much of her family silver was stolen in 10 mo 11 1842.
Some pages appear to be missing or out-of-order. At the beginning are several loose paper fragments, including responses to the question, "Is the importation of foreign articles beneficial to the inhabitants of the U.S.A.?"

Two soft cover journals. Written when Philip Price was 10 to 12 years old, the journals provide news of the family's daily life and attending Quaker meetings. Price was the son of Benjamin and Jane (Paxson) Price of Birmingham Monthly Meeting. He recorded that his father accompanied John Comly on a religious visit to Friends in Ohio and Indiana Yearly Meetings and mentioned Quaker friends and family, including Nathan Sharpless, John Jackson, Darlingtons, Kirks and many others. He married Ellen M. Sattherthwait and was disowned in 1847 by Birmingham Monthly Meeting (Orthodox) for attending Hicksite meeting. He later served in the Civil War.

AMS. Eli F. Brown (1842-1908) memoirs in which he describes the hardships of Quakers caught in Loudoun County, Virginia, during the Civil War and immediately thereafter. He was briefly imprisoned for refusing military service and describes the looting and guerilla warfare, and the burning of Loudoun County in late 1864 on Sheridan's orders.

Includes notes on household help, the founding of the Historical Society of Burlington County, family events, etc., and ends with his account of the queries addressed to him when he was confirmed as an Episcopalian in 1910 and why he did not choose Quaker or Presbyterian denominations. # 2 "Memoranda of family matters, #2," 1910-1912. Diary of events and opinions. He hope that his children will collect and publish his manuscripts. #3 - Diary, 1915-1916, family matters.

Brief diary of Martha Stackhouse (1789-1840), daughter of Amos and Mary P. Stackhouse. Diary begins close to her 23rd birthday in 1812. A second brief spiritual diary 1816-1820 probably of her mother, Mary P. Stackhouse; mentions deaths of daughter Esther and son Amos. In 1820, she vows to refrain from using sugar and other products produced with labor of enslaved people.

Stanfield was a Quaker pastor who attended Hartford Theological Seminary and served meetings in New York, Virginia, and Indiana. He retired from Clintondale Meeting in 1964.
