Abstract:: The Philadelphia Club of Advertising Women (PCAW) was founded in 1916 by sixteen women advertising executives. The Club participated in charitable efforts, offered advertising courses, published a newsletter (Ad-Land News), and hosted social events throughout its history. These efforts garnered national recognition for PCAW as a leading advertising organization. It also won them recognition locally as an organization committed to helping the community through scholarships and charitable giving. This collection contains the records produced by PCAW from 1916 to 1984, including material related to their advertising courses, events, history, charity involvement, and meetings. The collection has several strengths, the most notable of which is its comprehensive coverage of organizational activities from 1930 to 1977. Lucy T. Shoe Meritt papers, 1888-2003 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Lucy T. Shoe Meritt (1906- 2003) was an acclaimed archaeologist, scholar, teacher and editor who received her B.A, M.A, and Ph.D degrees from Bryn Mawr. During her life time, Shoe Meritt taught at Mount Holyoke College and the University of Texas at Austin, was a fellow at the American Academy of Rome, and served as the Editor of Publications for the American School of Classical Studies in Athens. Additionally, she was a member of the Institute for Advanced Study and the American Institute of Archaeology. She received the Gold Medal of the Archaeological Institute of America for Distinguished Archaeological Achievement in 1976. The collection is largely comprised of Shoe Meritt's correspondence with her family and notable scholars who were her contemporaries. It also includes diaries, publications, academic and professional papers, as well as photographs, postcards and scrapbooks.

Speer Family papers, 1802-1982 (inclusive) 1883-1943 (bulk)

Abstract:: The Speer Family papers represent four generations of that family, with the bulk of material attributed to the last two generations, especially Robert Elliott Speer and his wife and three of his five children: Emma Bailey, Elliott, Margaret Bailey, and William Speer. The family was active in the Presbyterian Church, serving that institution in a variety of different capacities. The children, in addition to their religious roles, held prominent positions in academic administration. The family's papers primarily consist of the personal papers of the family, although they also contain the professional correspondence of Emma Bailey and Margaret Bailey Speer, both Bryn Mawr College alumnae. This collection, which dates from 1802 to 1982, contains letters, diaries, speeches, publications, awards, and photographs, although the vast majority of the material is the letters between family members.

Abstract:: Incorporated by William Wagner (1796-1885) in 1855, the Wagner Free Institute of Science is a natural history museum and educational institution in Philadelphia that is dedicated to providing free public education in the sciences. This collection consists of Closing Exercises of the Lecture Season announcements from 1936 to 1983 (intermittent) and programs from 1921 to 1989 (intermittent). The announcements provide information on the following: the date, time and location of the closing exercises, the person giving the introductory remarks and awarding the certificates, the person giving the lecture, and the title of the lecture. This collection provides a record of the lectures presented at the Closing Exercises of the Lecture Season, but no lectures or details of the event are contained within the collection. Geiger, the mission of the Henry George School of Social Science (HGSSS) is to promote economic and social justice based on the philosophy of Henry George and his masterpiece, Progress and Poverty (1879). Today, the HGSSS offers tuition free courses and seminars at its headquarters in New York City and at the School's dozens of satellite campuses around the world. Nicholas L. Childs family papers, 1818-1991 (inclusive)

Abstract:: The Childs and Moon families were long-time residents of Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Nicholas Lewarne Childs (1940-2009) taught history and Asian studies in private secondary schools in New Jersey, Iran, and Singapore. The bulk of the Childs family papers, 1818-1991, relate to Nicholas L. Childs and date from about 1965 to 1991, but there are also older materials from Louis M. Childs II, Nicholas L. Moon, Jacob Childs, Lizzy Orchard, and other Childs and Moon family members. The collection is comprised of correspondence, travel journals, travel ephemera, lecture notes and slides, photographs, genealogical research, legal documents, vital records, and other miscellaneous papers.

Phoenixville schools attendance registers, 1858-1900 and 1925-1957

Abstract:: Phoenixville, which was incorporated as a borough in 1849 in Chester County, Pennsylvania, evolved from an early 18th century village. The history of the town largely mirrored the history of the Phoenix Iron Company, which became hugely successful in the mid-19th century with the advent of the railroad. The Phoenixville Area School District is located in northern Chester County, several miles west of Valley Forge Park. The district covers three municipalities: Phoenixville Borough, Schuylkill Township, and East Pikeland Township. The Phoenixville schools attendance registers, 1858-1900 and 1925-1957, primarily are from elementary schools in the Phoenixville School District. Also included are some superintendent yearly reports and statistical information.

LMHS.24: Lower Merion Historical Society school ephemera collection, 1927-2011 (inclusive)

Abstract:: The Lower Merion School District was the first in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania to apply for establishing free "common" public schools under legislation passed in Harrisburg in 1834. The Lower Merion School District was established in 1836. As of 2011, it still serves the needs of the students of Lower Merion Township as well as the Borough of Narberth, and includes nine schools. The Lower Merion Historical Society school ephemera collection, 1927-2011, is made up of various items produced by schools, students, and teachers. It includes a large number of school newspapers, yearbooks, photographs, and event programs.
