Abstract:

The Old York Road Symphony was founded in 1932 and gave its first concert in 1933, at the Keswick Theatre in Glenside, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Its mission is to provide an outlet for the interests and talents of serious musicians of all ages, while enriching the cultural life of suburban Philadelphia. The Old York Road Symphony records, 1934-2010, include various administrative and financial records such as minutes, membership lists, and financial documents, as well as programs, clippings, and ephemera.

Abstract:

The League of Women Voters (LWV) was established in 1919 to help educate women on the civic responsibilities of voting. The Abington-Cheltenham-Jenkintown branch, still active as of 2013, was established in 1951 and expanded in 1959. The League of Women Voters of Abington-Cheltenham-Jenkintown records, 1952-2009, include newsletters, minutes, programs, photographs, articles (clippings), government directories, correspondence, bylaws, membership directories, board meeting agendas and minutes.

Theresa Hanlon collection on Overlook Elementary School, 1994-2007 (bulk) 1961-2007 (inclusive)

Abstract:

Overlook Elementary School is one of seven elementary schools in Abington School District, a suburb of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Overlook School, originally constructed in 1926, was rebuilt in 2005; Theresa Hanlon was a sixth grade teacher there. The bulk of the Theresa Hanlon collection on Overlook Elementary School, 1961-2007 (bulk 1994-2007) is mock-ups for school yearbooks. There are also video recordings of school performances and graduations, and photographs and slides of graduation classes and school events.

Lillian Rankin papers, circa 1960-2005

Abstract:

Lillian Bassett Rankin (nee Stringfellow) was born in 1913 and died in 2009. A graduate of Beaver College (now Arcadia University) and later a teacher there, Rankin lived most of her life in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. A large proportion of the Lillian Rankin papers, circa 1960-2005, consists of photographs and slides. The collection also contains a sizeable amount of her notebooks and writings, and a small amount of financial records, correspondence, and Beaver College/Arcadia University alumni ephemera.

The oldest incorporated civic association in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the Rydal-Meadowbrook Civic Association, founded in 1948, promotes the interests of the residents in the Rydal and Meadowbrook sections of Abington Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. The Rydal-Meadowbrook Civic Association records, 1949-2005, date mostly from the 1950s-1960s, and include various administrative records such as: correspondence, membership lists, financial records, legal records, scattered minutes, constitution and by-laws, correspondence, and clippings.

William E. Durrwachter (1911-2003) was a long-time member of the Edge Hill Fire Company and involved in many Montgomery County (Pennsylvania) area fire-fighter organizations. The William E. Durrwachter Collection, 1940-2002, is primarily made up of records, histories, photographs, clippings, and certificates related to various fire-fighting organizations throughout the area. There is also one scrapbook about Durrwachter's involvement with the Republican Party, 1945-1980.

Abstract:

Montgomery County, situated in southeastern Pennsylvania and established in 1784 out of the western portion of Philadelphia County, has played an important role in U.S. history. Since its founding, it has experienced "booming industry and manufacturing, rich farm fields, advanced transportation, artistic endeavors and unique religious beliefs." The history of the area of eastern Montgomery County has been documented significantly through the collecting efforts of the Old York Road Historical Society. The Old York Road Historical Society scrapbooks collection, 1890-2000, includes scrapbooks created by the Society and created by others that principally cover eastern Montgomery County.
