William E. Durrwachter (1911-2003) was a long-time member of the Edge Hill Fire Company and involved in many Montgomery County area fire-fighter organizations. He was very involved with the Republican party and served as county committeeman for Abington Township. He worked for Keystone Brass and Rubber Company, was a trumpet player, and participated in the Philadelphia Mummer's Parade.

The William E. Durrwachter Collection is primarily made up of records, histories, photographs, clippings, and certificates related to various fire-fighting organizations throughout eastern Montgomery County and the vicinity. There is also one scrapbook about Durrwachter's involvement with the Republican Party, 1945-1980.

Gift of William E. Durrwachter, 2001-2004.

Summary descriptive information on this collection was compiled in 2011-2012 as part of the Historical Society of Pennsylvania’s Hidden Collections Initiative for Pennsylvania Small Archival Repositories (HCI-PSAR), using data provided by the Old York Road Historical Society. The HCI-PSAR project was funded by a grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

This is a preliminary finding aid. No physical processing, rehousing, reorganizing, or folder listing was done in the HCI-PSAR project.
