Johnson Collection Curatorial Records, 1917-2007, undated (bulk 1927-1992) (inclusive)

Abstract:
The Johnson Collection Curatorial Records represent two "generations" of curatorial oversight of the art collection acquired by John Graver Johnson (19841-1917), one of Philadelphia's most prominent corporate lawyers. While the collection of more than 1,600 European paintings, sculpture and textiles is owned by the City of Philadelphia through Johnson's bequest, it is administered by and housed at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, as is Johnson's extensive art library. In these curatorial records, the earlier files reflect the administrative and curatorial activities of Henri Marceau and Barbara Sweeny, roughly documenting their combined years of service, 1926-1972. Joseph J. Rishel succeeded Sweeny as Johnson Collection curator in November of 1972. His tenure, which continues to this day, comprises the second curatorial term, from 1973 to 1992. Yardley Historical Association local history collection, 1883-2013 (bulk) 1741-2013 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Yardley Borough in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, was settled in 1682 by Quaker minister William Yeardley who purchased a tract of land from William Penn. Following the completion of the Bristol-New Hope section of the Delaware Canal in 1831, new commerce and trade poured into the town, then called "Yardleyville." The town continued to grow following the completion of the New York branch of the railroad in 1876 that included a nearby station. Yardley was incorporated as a borough in 1895. The Yardley Historical Association local history collection, 1741-2013 (bulk 1883-2013), is organized into two series: I. Subject files and II. Manuscripts. The Subject files include pamphlets and ephemera, photocopies of historical documents, and photographs, relating to local history topics, such as floods and Black history in Yardley. Steven Gerber papers, 1945-2015 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Steven R. Gerber (1948-2015) was an American classical composer. After studying music at Haverford College and Princeton University, he went on to compose a number of pieces for chamber, orchestra, choir, voice, and solo instruments. He is especially known for the frequency with which his works have been performed in Russia, where he participated in several musical tours in the 1990s. This collection contains materials related to Gerber's musical compositions, business, and personal life. This collection contains five series: "Compositions," "Business," "Personal," "Other Composers," and "Audiovisual." The first series is comprised of many sketches, drafts, and copies of his compositions. The business part of the collection also contains assorted documents such as publishing agreements, publicity documents, and Gerber's own analytical writings related to music. Finally, there are miscellaneous materials including personal reflections of the club's members and t-shirts created by the club.
