Abstract:: The Penn Law School Legal Oral History Project was a collaborative effort from 1999 through 2006 by a team of faculty, librarians, and students to record and preserve first-person narratives of graduates and members of the Penn Law Community as well as notable public interest lawyers. The project began as a seminar, the goal of which was to train students in the theory and practice of oral history. Each student then selected a distinguished graduate or member of the Penn Law community and conducted a one-to-two hour videotaped interview. Following the interview, the student transcribed the videotape and prepared a biographical article. The collection, dated 1999-2006, includes transcripts of interviews of distinguished Penn Law School alumni, associated members of the Penn Law community, and public interest lawyers. In fulfilling its core mission of providing legal education and scholarship, the school has hosted lecture series, symposiums, and other educational programs, and its students, faculty, and alumni have taken part in the activities of various academic legal societies. The school has undergone several renovations and construction projects over the years. In addition, the school has engaged in institutional development activities, including alumni relations and other promotional programs. Abstract:: The Judge Joe Lee papers, 1961-2012, consist of material from Lee's active involvement in bankruptcy organizations and legislation. Joe Lee received his law degree from the University of Kentucky in 1955. He served as counsel to the Congressional Labor Subcommittee for the U.S. House of Representatives before being appointed a U.S. Bankruptcy Judge on September 1, 1961. He was one of the longest serving bankruptcy judges in the nation and played a pivotal role in the enactment of the Bankruptcy Reform Act of 1978. The collection includes correspondence, minutes, and reports from the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges, drafts of bills and correspondence regarding bankruptcy legislation, and Lee's writings on the history of bankruptcy law.
