Abstract:: The Society of Friends or Quakers (the terms are synonymous) was founded in the middle of the seventeenth century in England by George Fox and others. The Friends Historical Library has collected Quaker disciplines since its founding in 1871. FHL is also the official repository for the records of seven American yearly meetings.

Abstract:: This small collection contains drawings by Lucy Sikes, a Brooklyn, New York, Quaker artist, and her email correspondence with Friends Historial Library with printed attachments. Abstract:: New York Yearly Meeting is the central body of Friends meetings in New York State and parts of Connecticut and New Jersey. This collection consists of miscellaneous color and black and white photographs of New York Yearly Meeting. There are some group photographs and some individual portraits.

Margery Rubin New York Yearly Meeting photographs, 1985-1997 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Margery Rubin was a Quaker involved with a variety of Friends organizations including New York Yearly Meeting, the American Friends Service Committee, and Friends Journal. This collection consists primarily of black and white photographs, with a few color photographs, from the 1980s and 1990s. There are portraits of individuals and group portraits, mostly from New York Yearly Meeting sessions. There are also photos of Powell House (New York Yearly Meeting's retreat center) and some other miscellaneous shots.

Alson D. Van Wagner New York Yearly Meeting Papers, 1992-1994 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Contains research, drafts and correspondence collected by Alson D. Van Wagner concerning two New York Yearly Meeting publications, Quaker Crosscurrents: Three Hundred Years of Friends in the New York Yearly Meeting, published in 1995, and New York Yearly Meeting Directory 1993. Of particular interest is the research done on identifying New York Yearly Meeting women ministers.

New York Female Association records, 1798-1988 (inclusive)

Extent:: 1 linear ft. (16 volumes)
Abstract:: Formed in 1798 to give aid to the sick poor, the New York Female Association created the first public female school in New York in 1800. Until 1845, it worked with the Free School Society to establish and maintain public schools in New York while also continuing its efforts to help the indigent. Since 1845, the association has been a small gift-giving committee. The collection includes minutes and financial records.
