Witness for Peace was founded in 1983 and was headquartered in Washington, D.C. The purpose of the group was to work with the people of Central America by acting in continuous nonviolent resistance to U.S. covert or overt intervention in their countries and to help change U.S. policy to one which fostered justice, peace, and friendship with the countries of Central America. Although primarily Christian, WFP welcomed others of otherspiritual approaches but who agreed with WFP's objectives

Horace Champney was a pacifist active in various causes from the late 1940s through the 1980s. He was a founder of The Peacemakers Movement in the 1950s and interested in civil rights, war tax refusal, and other social justice causes. Champney was a member A Quaker Action Group and a crew member of the ship the Phoenix, which sailed to North Vietnam with medical supplies, during the Vietnam war.

Walkabout Peace and Justice was first organized in 1985 in Davis, California, as an experimental project to provide a source of information for the peace-walking community. The group sponsored walks in support of issues related to peace and social justice; acted as a clearinghouse to provide information about other peace walks, mainly through its journal, Walkabout Peace and Justice. It's most siginficant organizer was Barbara Hirshkowitz, who later became a participant in New Society Publishers in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The Peace Action collection is a continuation of the SANE and SANE Education Fund (DG 58) collection, which also resides at the SCPC (the papers of the Nuclear Weapons Freeze Campaign are at the University of Missouri at St. Louis). It documents the merger of SANE and the NWFC, as well as the goals and work of the merged organization, through meeting minutes, correspondence, program files, press clippings and other publicity, statements and communications with Congress and other leaders, as well as publications and resources in other formats. Includes correspondence, annual reports, administrative files, financial records, flyers and handbills, memorabilia, minutes of meetings, newspaper clippings, periodicals, publicity materials, reference files, audiocassettes, slides, reel-to-reel tapes, videocassettes, computer diskettes, photographs, and posters. The National War Tax Resistance Coordinating Committee was formed in September 1982 at a National Action Conference of the War Resisters League and the Center on Law and Pacifism. Its supporters promote war tax resistance on the national level. The NWTRC is not to be confused with the organization War Tax Resistance, begun in New York, New York in 1969.
