They all relate to the rules and regulations for the Ackworth School in England.

Papers of the Livezey and Laughlin families. Thomas Livezey (1723/4-1790) married Martha Knowles in 1748 at Abington Monthly Meeting. He was a miller and expanded the family property along the Wissahicken and Cresheim Creeks. Thomas Livezey's great granddaughter, Anna, married George Laughlin, and her son, Thomas, moved to Ohio. This collection includes correspondence and legal and financial papers of the Livezey and Laughlin families of Philadelphia and Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, and and later of Ohio.

The correspondence, received by Edward Garrigues, is from many prominent Quaker ministers, including Isaac Hicks as he travelled with his cousin, Elias Hicks. Other correspondents include Rebecca Jones, Sarah Scattergood, Stephen Grellet, Charity Cook, Deborah Darby, and Martha Routh. The letters relate the travels of these ministers to meetings in both Europe and the United States, and their thoughts on spirituality.

It includes a small journal written by a young woman (unknown) on a trip from New York City to Poughkeepsie, 6 month 1835; an album, 1834, which contains a list of the scholars and teachers at Nine Partners Boarding School, and an undated commonplace book containing copies of Quaker sermons and other writings. A Friends Pocket Almanac for the year 1857 contains brief notes concerning family events and Quaker meetings. Correspondence includes two letters from James Wing to his family and a letter, 1844 from M[oses?] Wanzer, Jr., of New Fairfield, Connecticut, to Joseph E. Macomber of Farmington; the two apparently had been classmates at Nine Partners School. Miscellaneous business and legal papers, 1788-1853, concern the Wing, Arnold, and Carpenter families.

Horace Mather Lippincott (1877-1967) was a Quaker editor and historian. The collection contains his speeches and writings on topics primarily concerning the Society of Friends and the history of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Of particular interest is the scrapbook he compiled in 1946 of papers and photographs of the 1913-1914 Joint Group which met weekly to study the Separation in the Society of Friends, along with other papers on the topic and on the first joint meeting of the two Philadelphia Yearly Meetings in 1946. The collection includes genealogical research by Horace Mather Lippincott and his brother George E. Lippincott, deeds, and some family papers.

John Woolman Manuscripts Collection, 1720-1939 (inclusive)

John Woolman (1720-1772) was one of the most influential ministers in the history of the Religious Society of Friends. He was particularly active in opposing slavery and encouraging Quakers to disavow the practice. Involved in this collection are Morgan Brooks (1861-1947), a professor of engineering, and his wife, Frona Marie (Brooks) Brooks (1861-1947). One of their children, Charles Franklin Brooks (1891-1958), became a member of the Society of Friends shortly after marrying Eleanor M. Stabler (1892-1986) in 1914. Their daughter, Barbara Brooks (1922-2007), married Edward H. Kerner, and she was active in Quaker concerns, particularly peace. This collection contains loose photgraphs, albums, and photos of family groups, among others.

Robert Proud was born in Yorkshire, England, in 1728 to Ann and William Proud. After completing his education, he immigrated to the Pennsylvania Colony. Considered a Loyalist and unsuccessful in starting several enterprises, he lived on shaky footing. However, he became a noteworty historian and writer, dubbed by some as "Pennsylvania's first historian." This collection consists of Proud's observations and memoranda, Latin and Greek translations, poetry, copies of other documents, letters, and some of Proud's published work, along with some other documents.

Abstract:
There were five volunteer fire companies in the Frankford area of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the late eighteenth through late nineteenth century, the first being Frankford Fire Company, organized in 1793. Frankford Fire Company would later be reorganized into two companies in 1803, and other volunteer fire companies were established in the 1850s. In 1870, all of the volunteer fire companies in Frankford were disbanded when the city-wide Philadelphia Fire Company was established. The Historical Society of Frankford fire company records collection, 1793-1925, consists of twenty-eight volumes of meeting minutes, financial records, and membership records of the five volunteer fire companies that were established in the Frankford area from 1793 through 1853.

Historical Society of Montgomery County business records collection, 1766-1985, consists of miscellaneous records from businesses in the vicinity of Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Dozens of different types of businesses are represented in the collection, including general stores, blacksmiths and forges, banks and insurance companies, post offices, and others. Most of the records are financial--account books, daybooks, ledgers, etc.--but there is also some correspondence and other types of records.
