Overview and metadata sections

Samuel Newitt Jr. (1764-1847) was born April 27, 1764, in Northhamptonshire, England, the son of Samuel and Mary Newitt. He immigrated to Newport County, Rhode Island, at an unknown date, where he established a farm near Tiverton. On February 21, 1805, Newitt married Esther Mosher in Westport, Massachusetts. On February 12, 1847, Newitt died and was buried on his farm.

This collection is composed of the single handwritten travel journal of Samuel Newitt. Entries detail Newitt's journey to Rhode Island, including descriptions of visits with Friends and attendance at Meetings in various towns in Rhode Island.

The Samuel Newitt journal was donated to Special Collections, Haverford College in 2015 by Jonathan Flaccus.
