Abstract:: Great American Management and Investment Inc. (GAMI) is a diversified holding company as well as a manufacturer of electrical equipment. In March of 1977, GAMI filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The records of Great American Management Investment are comprised of the documents of the initial pleadings and the closing documents. Within each series, the material may contain petitions, applications, stays, memorandums, correspondence, and other related documents.

Daniel Glosband papers, 1998-2013 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Daniel Glosband was one of the primary draftsmen of Chapter 15 of the Bankruptcy Code, which was enacted as part of The Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act (BAPCPA) in 2005. Drafting began in as early as 1997. The Daniel Glosband Papers: 2005 Bankruptcy Reform, is a small collection comprised of five series: Administrative Records; Drafts, 2000; Drafts, 1999; United States Advisory Group; and Chapter 15 Rules.

Daniel Glosband papers of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law , 1888, 1937-1938, 1978-2005 and undated (inclusive) 1994-2005 (bulk)

Abstract:: Daniel Glosband is the International Bar Association's official liaison of the Creditors Rights and Insolvency Committee to the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) and was one of the primary draftsmen of the UNCITRAL Model Law on Cross-Border Insolvency. Since its establishment in 1966, UNCITRAL has been recognized as the core legal body of the United Nations system in the field of international trade law. This collection consists of nine series covering correspondence, code references, drafts, articles, Glosband's notes, organizational reports, and Glosband's business travel documents dated 1888, 1937-1938, 1978-2005 and undated.

William Warren papers (Federal Tax Projects), 1943-1966 (inclusive) 1950-1956 (bulk)

Abstract:: The William Warren papers (Federal Tax Projects) consists of Warren's papers related to the Federal Income, Estate, and Gift Tax project and Federal Income Tax Statute. In the mid-1940s, the American Law Institute (ALI) set about to analyze the law as it related to income tax. Known as the Income Tax Project, the primary objective was not to codify the law but to provide analysis of issues as they related to the United States' increasingly complex tax code. The Federal Income, Estate, and Gift Tax Project (as it would eventually be known) consisted of a series of non-binding recommendations to students, teachers, litigators, and legislators as they dealt with the evolving tax code. The ALI attributes Warren as the Associate Chief Reporter on the Federal Income, Estate, and Gift Tax project. This collection does not contain material related to Warren's work beyond the ALI's Federal Tax Projects and is arranged in two series within 72 bound volumes.

Abstract:: Roswell B. Perkins was President of the American Law Institute from 1980 to 1993 and served as Chair of the Council from 1993 to 2008. An expert in the field of corporate governance, Perkins played a major role in the drafting of the Principles of Corporate Governance: Analysis and Recommendations. The collection includes Perkins' files on this project as well as correspondence and subject files from his time as President of the American Law Institute.

Geoffrey C. Hazard Director's files, 1982-1999 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Geoffrey C. Hazard, Jr. graduated from Swarthmore College in 1953 and received his LL.B. from Columbia University in 1954. Widely considered an authority on legal ethics, Hazard was Director of the American Law Institute from 1984 to 1999. During his tenure, the ALI worked on many restatement and codification projects, including a Restatement of the Law Governing Lawyers and revisions to the Uniform Commercial Code. The collections, 1982-1999, chiefly covers Hazard's activities as Director of the American Law Institute from 1984 to 1999.

Abstract:: The American Law Institute (ALI) was founded in 1923 in response to a perceived uncertainty and complexity in American law. Former Penn Law Dean William Draper Lewis was the Institute's first director, running the organization's operations out of his campus office. The ALI was conceived as a representative gathering of the American Bar (including Judges, Lawyers, and Law Professors) for the stated mission "to promote the clarification and simplification of the law and its better adaptation to social needs, to secure the better administration of justice and to encourage and carry on scholarly and scientific legal work." The collection, 1922-2004, includes minutes, correspondence, reports, and related records regarding the activity of the American Law Institute's Executive Committee, Finance and Development Committee, Investment Committee, and Membership Committee.

American Law Institute Model Land Development Code records, 1960-1974 and undated (inclusive)

Abstract:: In 1964, the American Law Institute (ALI) secured funding to examine and codify the law relating to land use and development. The resulting document was the Model Land Development Code, adopted by the ALI in May 1975. The collection, 1960-1974 and undated, includes preliminary studies, drafts, memoranda, correspondence, and related material concerning the drafting and adoption of the Model Land Development Code.
