Abstract:
The NGO Committee on Disarmament was established in June 1973 by a group of international NGOs (non-governmental organizations). The organization had petitioned the New York Bureau of the Conference of NGOs in Consultative Status with the U.N. Economic and Social Council to form a Committee on Disarmament at U.N. headquarters. This new Committee would be parallel to the Special NGO Committee on Disarmament in Geneva, Switzerland.

Abstract:
The U.S. Peace Council National Founding Conference was held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, November 9-11, 1979. The organization was headquartered in New York, New York until 1990, then moved to Philadelphia. It was formed as a "peace and solidarity network" and published the periodical Peace and Solidarity. The U.S. Peace Council was affiliated with the World Peace Council, headquartered in Helsinki, Finland. ThePhiladelphia national headquarters closed in 1992, but some operations were continued (1993- ) by the Michigan chapter.

Unitarian Universalist Peace Network Records, 1983-1991 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Established in 1984 to strengthen peace work among Unitarian Universalists and interfaith communities, the goup was especially concerned with the international arms race and nuclear proliferation. Directors included Stephen M. Shick, Carol Powers, Stephanie Nichols. The headquarters were in Philadelphia, Pa. and sponsored by the Unitarian Universalist Association. Unitarian Universalist Peace Fellowship, Unitarian Universalist Service Committee, Unitarian Universalist United Nations Office, Unitarian Universalist Women's Federation, and the International Association for Religious Freedom; published two periodicals, Peace Network News and Nuclear Free Zone News; organized a Rapid Action Alert network to communicate concerns to elected representatives; ceased operations on November 30, 1991.

Exploratory Project on the Conditions of Peace Records, 1985-1991 (inclusive)

Abstract:
The Exploratory Project on the Conditions of Peace, founded by W. H. Ferry, was established at Boston College in 1987 to explore the conditions for a sustainable peace. The group worked on concepts such as "peace systems" and "war systems", and its members developed the Citizens' Peace Treaty. After relocating to Washington, D.C., the organization ceased operation 1990 or 1991.

Abstract:
Professionals' Coalition for Nuclear Arms Control was organized in 1984 as a coalition of organizations. It grew to include the Lawyers Alliance for Nuclear Arms Control, Physicians for Social Responsibility, the Union of Concerned Scientists, Architects, Designers, Planners for Social Responsibility, Psychologists for Social Responsibiity, High Technology Professionals for Peace, and Citizens Against Nuclear War, and Business Executives for Nuclear Age Concerns. It was formed as a lobbying and educational group to promote effective arms control legislation.

Midwest Committee for Military Counseling Records, 1977-1996 (inclusive)

Abstract:
The Midwest Committee for Military Counseling was founded in 1976. The MCMC provided counseling, training sessions and public education. Staff worked with counselors, attorneys, community groups and religious bodies on behalf of potential recruits to the military and people on active military duty. The MCMC ceased operation in 1995 or 1996.
