Rosalie Regen Papers, 1856-1993 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Rosalie Stork Regen (1909-1993) was a Quaker author and playwright who joined the Rahway and Plainfield Monthly Meeting in 1941. She was the daughter of Charles Wharton Stork and Elisabeth von Pausinger Stork. An active member of the Society of Friends, Rosalie taught First Day School and visited Quakers all over the world. The collection includes journals kept continuously from 1936 to the time of her death in 1993. She also maintained a prodigious correspondence with family and friends. Includes drafts of her writings, some of which were published: "Peaceful Heroes," a collection of plays, in 1962, and "Forever in Joy," a book of poetry, in 1974.

James A. Michener ('29) Papers, 1890-2012 (inclusive)

Abstract:: James A. Michener (1907-1997, Swarthmore College class of 1929) was a bestselling American author of more than four dozen books. His first, Tales of the South Pacific and published when he was 40, won the Pulitzer Prize. The bulk of this collection is clippings about James A. Michener and foreign stamps collected by him.

Abstract:: The American businessman John T. Diebold, founder of the Diebold Group, Inc. and author of the management classic Automation, was a graduate of Swarthmore College (class of 1949). This collection consists of 89 scrapbooks carefully constructed by Diebold to document his life and the major events of his business career and personal life.

Friends Boarding Home of Concord Quarterly Meeting (The Hickman) Photographs, 1896-1991 (inclusive)

Abstract:: The Hickman is a senior living community located in the heart of West Chester, Pennsylvania, and which is guided by Quaker principles and tradition. This collection depicts the life of those in the Hickman, providing color and black and white photographs of guests, staff, and the boarding home, from 1896 to 1991.

The Harned photograph collection, 1911-1992 (inclusive)

Abstract:: The Harned was a non-profit boarding home for the elderly in Moylan, PA, under the care of Media Monthly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends. It operated under the direction of The Harned Committee. It was established in 1940 through the bequest of Quaker sisters, Phebe and Katherine Harned, and laid down in 1994. The collection contains loose and mounted photographs, clippings, and a scrapbook depicting residential life.

Friends General Conference Photos, 1894-1997 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Founded in 1900, when Hicksite yearly meetings joined together, the FGC is dedicated to holding annual meetings intended to nurture Quaker faith, practice, and inclusivity. In this collection, dated from 1894 to 1997, the yearly FGC meetings are photographed and presented in loose black and white and color photographs that show conference attendees and locations.

Donald C. Turner family photographs, 1890-1977 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Donald Carré Turner (1909-1989) was a construction executive, a genealogist, and an alumnus of Swarthmore College. This collection, dating from the 1890s to the 1970s, contains a wide variety of photograph types, for the most part depicting gatherings and individual people through portraits, but there are also some miscellaneous sights/people depicted and some landscapes (e.g. Swarthmore).

Abstract:: The Meyers-Foster family are Quakers with close ties to Pennsylvania and in particular Westtown School. This collection consists primarily of color slides, card photographs, and loose photographs, both of the Foster-Meyers family and of organizations they were involved with.

Scott Arboretum of Swarthmore College slide collection, 1925-2005 (inclusive)

Extent:: 8.6 cubic ft. (13 boxes)
Abstract:: The Arthur Hoyt Scott Horticultural Foundation was established at Swarthmore College in 1929 as a memorial to Arthur Hoyt Scott (1874-1927). The intention of the Foundation was to focus on plantings appropriate to Eastern Pennsylvania, creating a practical "garden of ideas" for amateur gardeners while at the same time improving the campus. The name changed to Scott Arboretum of Swarthmore College in 1986. This collection consists of slides of plants, the Scott Arboretum, Arboretum employees, and other arboretums.
