Wilmer J. and Mildred Binns Young Papers, 1909-2014 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Wilmer J. Young (1887-1983), a Quaker teacher and peace activist born in Iowa, was involved in post World War I reconstruction in France and Poland. He married Mildred Binns in 1922, and together they worked with AFSC work camps and cooperative farms until he began to teach at Pendle Hill in 1955. The collection contains primarily journals and correspondence from his time in France.

Swarthmore Village Business and Professional Association Records, 1983-1994 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Records of the Swarthmore Village Business and Professional Association, a group organized to encourage a healthy business district. The Association sponsored a sidewalk sale, Christmas Carol sing, and other activities in an effort to promote the local businesses. It dissolved in January 1994 due to lack of participation of its membership.

Woman's Club of Swarthmore records, 1898-1995 (inclusive)

Abstract:: This collection contains the records of the Woman's Club of Swarthore, founded in 1898. The Club offered women of the community a means of support and education, a place to meet and find common interests and nurtured the founding of a number of community organizations. The Club disbanded in 2002.

Abstract:: This collection includes Theodore Dreiser's letters to Mabel Cheyney, printed documents concerning the suppression of Dreiser's The Genius, and several printed pamphlets and previews regarding Dreiser's work. Mabel Cheney was probably the daughter of George S. and Mary Wilson Price Cheyney, Quakers from Thornbury Township in Delaware County, Pennsylvania.

Lippincott-Dillwyn papers, 1738-1824 (inclusive)

Abstract:: This collection includes a daily journal and spiritual essays by William Lippincott and extracts on theological themes by George Dillwyn. Also included is the copy book of Edward Randolph, dated 1822, and a bound manuscript entitled The Experiences of Margret Bispham, of Mount Holly, 1769. This manuscript reflects the influence of Quakerism and spirituality on the choices of an 18th century Quaker woman.
