Marcia J. Frost research collection relating to Gujarat, 1933-2020 (inclusive) 1975-2020 (bulk)

Abstract:: This research collection primarily contains Gujarat village records collected from the mamlatdar record offices in the mid-1970s by economics professor Marcia J. Frost, whose research focused on the economic history of Gujarat territories. Village officials prepared kalambandhis (annual talati accounts) and moje jarif (village registers from the revenue survey) during the first decade of British rule in western India. These cover a wide range of topics including population and animal censuses, village revenue and expenditures, land tenures and use, village history and customs. Frost collected these records for her dissertation study of the economic history of the Gujarat territories under the East India Company administration in the early 19th century.

Abstract:: The Philadelphia Sculptors, a non profit organization, was founded in 1996 in order to promote contemporary sculpture and to serve as an advocate for sculptors in the greater Philadelphia region. The collection consists of administrative records documenting the founding and operation of the organization; artist files, including artists' biographies, statements, and photographic examples of works; and exhibition files for roughly 60 exhibits from 1996 until 2022, when this collection was donated.

Abstract:: Walter Jay Lear (1923-2010) was an American physician, public health official, and activist for healthcare reform, LGBTQ+ rights, and numerous other causes. The Walter Lear papers measure 56 linear feet, date from 1923 to 2008, and consist primarily of material relating to Lear's career and activism. Lear's work as the Deputy Commissioner of the Philadelphia Public Health Department and Commissioner of the Southeastern Region of the Pennsylvania Health Department comprise the bulk of the collection. Material relating to his personal life and family is also present.

She owned and operated Academy Books and Bindery, in Stockton, New Jersey, from 1983 to 2008. The collection contains many examples of limited-edition books that she produced or collected, as well as visual and written documentation for some of her projects.
