Abstract:: Letters, legal, business and financial papers, accounts, minutes, diary, portraits and other papers chiefly related to the Cope family of Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Topics include business and civic interests in Philadelphia, Philadelphia Yearly Meeting committe aiding German Separatists led by Joseph M. Bimeler (Baumler), Separation of 1827-1828, slavery and immigration of free Black people to Haiti, War of 1812, etc. Letters (1854-1857) of Thomas Garrett (1789-1871) discuss his work assisting fleeing formerly enslaved people.

Morris Evans Leeds papers, 1862-1944 (inclusive) 1862; 1942 (bulk)

Abstract:: A collection that focuses on two dates: 1862 & 1942. In the former, Lewis W. Leeds' invention of the window envelope is detailed with contracts, bills, correspondence and samples of the envelope. In 1942, his descendant, Morris E. Leeds corresponds with E. Tudor Gross who has become interested in the invention and ends with the article entitled "The Window Envelope," which appeared in the Collector's Club Philatelist in April of that year.

Morris-Shinn-Maier collection, 1720-1975 (inclusive)

Abstract:: This collection spans approximately 200 years, from the late 1700s to the late 1900s, and five generations of the Morris-Shinn-Maier family, which are traced through matrilineal and patrilineal lines. They were prominent Quaker businessmen and lawyers in the Philadelphia area, and a large portion of the collection is dedicated to their legal and business material, as well as a great deal of very detailed financial material. There is also a quantity of personal material, namely diaries and correspondence, and material from philanthropic work done by later generations. Principal individuals include Paul David Irwin Maier, William Morris Maier, Anna Shinn Maier, Levi Morris and Naomi McClenachan Morris. A genealogical chart done by a Haverford student while processing the collection has been printed out and is included in the box 1191 (ovs).

John Smith letterbooks, 1750-1760 (inclusive)

Abstract:: John Smith's letterbooks include both personal and business correspondence. Personal correspondence discusses family news and births, deaths, and marriages within the Quaker community. Business correspondence is largely related to the buying and selling of imported dry goods.

Charles Shoemaker Taylor letterbook, 1875-1878 (inclusive)

Abstract:: This collection is comprised of the single volume letterbook of Charles Shoemaker Taylor, which contains business correspondence related to the buying and selling of goods, livestock, and land. Taylor was educated at Haverford College, was a member of the original board of trustees for Bryn Mawr College until 1893, and was the vice president of the Haverford College Alumni Association.

Business Problems Group records, 1919-1935 (inclusive)

Abstract:: The Business Problem Group of Philadelphia was part of the Social Order Committee of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting, Orthodox whose purpose was to "deal with prblems of the relation between employers and employees. This collection contains three bound volumes of minutes from meetings of the Business Problems Group of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting. The group met and had presentations and programs.

Dolobran Mining Company records, 1880-1908 (inclusive)

Abstract:: This collection is comprised of the legal papers, correspondence, and financial records of the Dolobran Mining Company, a corporation based in San Miguel County, Colorado, which acted as an economic link between Quakers in Philadelphia and the east coast of the United States and Quakers in Colorado.
