Overview and metadata sections

The Dolobran Mining Company was a corporation based in San Miguel County, Colorado, which was established in 1881. The company was named after a Quaker Meeting in Wales, and was originally owned by the Quaker Lloyd family in England. The company acted as an economic link between Quakers in Philadelphia and the east coast of the United States and Quakers in Colorado. The 1881 charter for the company included as signers of its business transactions Quakers Samuel Alsop, William Alderson, Francis I. King, David Scull Jr., James Carey Thomas, and Samuel R. Shipley. Among its board members were Francis T. King and John B. Garrett.

This collection is comprised of the legal papers, correspondence, and financial records of the Dolobran Mining Company.

Includes deeds of title and lease, charter (April 11, 1881), survey of claim (Aug. 11, 1882), mineral and other patents, letters, and legal document signed by the Secretary of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (Oct. 21, 1881) authorizing the "foreign" company, The Dolobran Mining Company, to do business in Pennsylvania as well as transfers or sale of shares in the company and in the proposed The Haverford Mining Company. The earliest deed of lease and title is to David Scull of Philadelphia and Samuel Alsop, Jr. of Colorado for the Pioneer, Revenue, and Union mines in Ouray County, Colorado (Sept. 15, 1880). In April, 1881, Samuel Alsop, Jr. and Walter Gaskill formed and incorporated The Dolobran Mining Company to acquire precious metal mines to then develop, work, or improve them, including erecting buildings or mills and for which they would sell stock. Some document signers include: Samuel Alsop, William Alderson, Francis T. King, David Scull Jr., James Carey Thomas, and Samuel R. Shipley.
