Charles Shoemaker Taylor (1850-1939) was born November 26, 1850, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of Abraham Merritt Taylor and Elizabeth Robeson Shoemaker. Taylor was educated at Haverford College and graduated in 1871. He married Rebecca Hughes on June 12, 1873, and the couple had five children: Abraham Merritt Taylor (1874), Charles Clifford Taylor (1876), Joseph Wright Taylor (1878), Marianna Taylor (1881), and Frederick Raymond Taylor (1887). After Rebecca died in 1893, Taylor married Gertrude Allinson, with whom he had three children: Margaret Wood Taylor (1898), Edward Allinson Taylor (1900), and Lawrence Newbold Taylor (1903).
Charles Taylor was a real estate developer by profession, but was also involved in higher education. He was a member of the original board of trustees for Bryn Mawr College until 1893, and was the vice president of the Haverford College Alumni Association.
Charles Shoemaker Taylor died September 21, 1939, in Haverford, Pennsylvania, at the age of 89.
