Abstract:
James Wood (1839-1925) was "interested in education, philanthropy, in the various branches of agriculture, in archaeology, history, Indian lore, anthropology, science, in prison reform and above all, in the Bible and religion," (ABS, 2). He was also a business man, serving as President of the Genesee Salt Company in Piffard, New York. The James Wood papers are divided into twelve series: "Biographical Material:" "Agriculture;" Business and Financial Material;" "Collected Quaker Material;" "Correspondence;" "Hugh Barbour Writings and Talks regarding James Wood;" "Journals;" "Organizations;" "Photographs and Albums;" "Political Involvement;" Prison Reform;" and lastly, "Writings by James Wood." This collection contains many materials, including correspondence, photographs, record books, awards, and printed material such as newspapers and pamphlets. Abstract:
David Cooper wrote his memoir during his later years, when his health was failing, so that his children would be able to reference an account of his life after his death. A note on the inside cover reads: "A Gift of David Cooper to his daughter Martha Allinson." In the memoir, Cooper recounts his early life, his family history, his marriage, the birth of his children, his Quakerism, his struggles with his faith, his work as a representative in 1761, and his attendance at Quaker Meetings.

Joseph Hoag (1762-1846)is best known for his "Vision" of 1803 which predicted an American Civil War, and his Journal, the publication of which in 1860 precipitated a schism at Scipio Monthly Meeting into Otisite and Kingite groups. This collection is comprised of the single volume handwritten manuscript of Joseph Hoag's journal and correspondence related to the item's donation.

Thomas Raeburn White wrote this manuscript for his children and their descendants. The volume begins with a brief genealogical history of White's ancestors, who came from England or Scotland, and initially settled in the Carolinas. White describes how the family migrated to Indiana when his father was a child, in search of a more religiously tolerant community, and provides brief family history for his mother and father. White also describes his childhood, early education, Quaker experiences, college years at Earlham College, and business endeavors in adulthood.

The autobiography or memoir of Ruth Abbott Rogers is structured to act as a tour of the family home, called Quillity, outside of Philadelphia. In Rogers's words, "I will start at the top of the house under the slate roof and wander down room by room going over the accumulation of a family from colonial times in America." The manuscript therefore acts as both an autobiography of Roger's own life in the house, and as a family history.
