Overview and metadata sections

Thomas Raeburn White (1875-1959) was born August 30, 1875, in Dublin, Indiana, the son of William Wilson White and Mary Abigail White. White was educated at Earlham College, and graduated in 1896. In 1901, he married Elizabeth Wilson, and the couple had three children: Mary Louise (1902-1984), William Wilson (1906-1964), and Thomas (1910-1990). In 1910, the family moved to Philadelphia. Thomas Raeburn White died in Penllyn, Pennsylvania.

This collection is comprised of the single volume typed memorandum of Thomas Raeburn White, which he wrote for his children and their descendants. The volume begins with a brief genealogical history of White's ancestors, who came from England or Scotland, and initially settled in the Carolinas. White describes how the family migrated to Indiana when his father was a child, in search of a more religiously tolerant community, and provides brief family history for his mother and father. White also describes his childhood, early education, Quaker experiences, college years at Earlham College, and business endeavors in adulthood.
