Abstract:: As a teacher, scholar, lawyer, and consultant, Lawrence P. King (1929-2001) played an important role in the reform of bankruptcy law from the 1960s to his death in 2001. King taught commercial and bankruptcy law at New York University Law School. He served on a number of congressional commissions formed to analyze and reform bankruptcy law, including the Advisory Committee on Bankruptcy Rules of the Judicial Conference of the United States. He gave speeches and participated in panels regarding bankruptcy legislation for a number of seminars and educational programs. He was an active member of the National Bankruptcy Conference, an organization of lawyers, judges, and professors dedicated to bankruptcy reform. He had leadership roles in National Bankruptcy Conference committees, including the Committee on Legislation, where he was Chairman. Abstract:: Nancy Dreher was a member of the American College of Bankruptcy, Fellow of the American Bar Association, and member of the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges (NCBJ), where she served as Editor-in-Chief of the American Bankruptcy Law Journal from 1994 to 1998. Dreher also edited the NCBJ publication Conference News from 1999 to 2000, a period during which the newsletter underwent a thorough restructuring. The Nancy C. Dreher collection includes selected issues of the American Bankruptcy Law Journal, which Dreher edited from 1994 to 1998, and "Conference News," the official NCBJ newsletter that was edited by Dreher from 1999 to 2000. Abstract:: This collection contains a brief look into the life and career of Ahron Jay Cristol, the chief judge of the Florida bankruptcy court, a lecturer in law of naval warfare, and a former US Navy aviator and lawyer in the Judge Advocate General's Corps. The collection contains series of Cristol's work as a legal scholar and bankruptcy judge, including testimony given before the US House of Representatives, various speeches given at events and lectures, and a small series of legal opinions written by Cristol, including some written in poetic verse. Also included are some audio tapes of interviews given by Cristol and a series of personal photographs commemorating his career and service.

Abstract:: Daniel Glosband was one of the primary draftsmen of Chapter 15 of the Bankruptcy Code, which was enacted as part of The Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act (BAPCPA) in 2005. Drafting began in as early as 1997. The Daniel Glosband Papers: 2005 Bankruptcy Reform, is a small collection comprised of five series: Administrative Records; Drafts, 2000; Drafts, 1999; United States Advisory Group; and Chapter 15 Rules.

Abstract:: Daniel Glosband is the International Bar Association's official liaison of the Creditors Rights and Insolvency Committee to the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) and was one of the primary draftsmen of the UNCITRAL Model Law on Cross-Border Insolvency. Since its establishment in 1966, UNCITRAL has been recognized as the core legal body of the United Nations system in the field of international trade law. This collection consists of nine series covering correspondence, code references, drafts, articles, Glosband's notes, organizational reports, and Glosband's business travel documents dated 1888, 1937-1938, 1978-2005 and undated.

Mary Davies Scott papers, 1984-2002 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Mary Davies Scott (born in 1944) earned her J.D. from the University of Arkansas, Little Rock, in 1978. Scott was appointed Bankruptcy Judge to the Eastern District of the United States Federal Court in 1987, where she remained until her retirement in 2002. From 1996 to 2002, she served as a member of the Bankruptcy Appellate Panel of the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals. Scott is a member of the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges, where she has served in a number of leadership roles. She has served on the Board of Directors of the American College of Bankruptcy since 2002. Scott planned and taught at various workshops and seminars for the Federal Judicial Center, an organization that provides continuing education to the federal judiciary, including bankruptcy judges. As chair of the American College of Bankruptcy's Archives Committee, Scott was instrumental in creating and developing the National Bankruptcy Archives at the University of Pennsylvania Law School. Abstract:: Henry J. Sommer is one of the leading figures in bankruptcy and consumer law. Born in 1949 in Rochester, New York, Sommer received his JD cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1974. After graduating from Harvard, he worked for Community Legal Services in Philadelphia as Project Head of its Consumer Law Project until 1996. In addition to his role with Community Legal Services, Sommer has served on bankruptcy rules committees and worked as editor-in-chief of Collier on Bankruptcy. The Henry J. Sommer Papers, 1966-2014, include National Bankruptcy Conference papers, materials from Continuing Legal Education seminars and other meetings at which Sommer lectured, copies of published manuscripts written by Sommer, and other material related to Sommer's work with consumer law and legal reform.

Abstract:: Harry Dixon Jr. (1944-2006), a lawyer from Nebraska, wanted to form an organization with the dual purpose of providing Congress with unbiased views on legislation and creating an institution that could keep the bankruptcy community aware of legislative activities affecting them. In February 1982, Dixon incorporated under Nebraska law this new organization which was to be called the American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI). The records of the American Bankruptcy Institute document two main areas of the organization: the history and operating activities of the American Bankruptcy Institute and the organization's professional activities, publications, and research on bankruptcy related issues. The materials date from 1982-2013, with the bulk from 1985-1996.
