Abstract:
This collection consists of a large number of scrapbooks assembled by Bryn Mawr College Alumnae, focusing on their years at Bryn Mawr College. The alumnae represented graduated at various times between 1891 and 1950. The vast majority of the scrapbooks come from the earlier years of Bryn Mawr College. There is huge variety among items in this collection. Some scrapbooks contain a great deal of material while others are sparse. Some provide commentary on the items, ranging from simple labels to diary-length entries. Most contain personal memorabilia such as letters and cards, as well as Bryn Mawr College-related materials. These include programs, photographs, newspaper clippings, souvenirs from dances and dinners, and college traditions material. Poems, drawings, and notes from friends give a distinctive perspective into the daily life at Bryn Mawr College. Bryn Mawr College photo archives inventory, 1885-2000s

Abstract:
The Photo Archives comprises photographs, slides, transparencies, and negatives depicting the history of Bryn Mawr College from 1885 to the early 2000s. The majority of prints are in black-and-white, though there are a few in color from the late 1960s through the 1980s. Older prints range from carte-de-visite, cabinet cards, cyanotypes and some other early photomechanical processes. Photos are organized in three sub-collections: People; Buildings and Campus; and Events and Groups. The sub-collection People contains photos of notable and miscellaneous persons from the College. The Buildings group includes images of past and current campus buildings, including exterior and interior views. The Events and Groups sub-collection comprises events, campus happenings, and student life. There are also portraits of early alumnae, yearbook photographs, Bi-Co news photographs, and images from the Summer School of Women Workers in Industry (SSWWI). Jessie Gilroy (Warneke) scrapbook, volume 1: 1906-1910 volume 2: 1908-1910 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Jessie Gilroy majored in French and Greek, graduating from Bryn Mawr in 1909. She was a painter, and exhibited in several galleries throughout the United States. In 1927, she married the esteemed sculptor Heinz Warneke. She died in 1982. The Jessie Gilroy scrapbook houses Gilroy's two-volume scrapbook. Volume 1 consists of material from 1906-1910, is primarily photographs, while Volume 2 consists of material from 1908-1910, and contains a great deal of personal memorabilia.

Mildred Fairchild Woodbury was a noted labor economist and educator. Her collection contains materials from 1894-1975 and includes a variety of materials related to the Department of Social Work and Social Research at Bryn Mawr College, the American Association of University Women Philadelphia, the YWCA, the Pennsylvania Advisory Committee for Public Assistance, and the Southeast Regional Planning Council, the Pennsylvania Criminal Justice Planning Board, and some personal materials.

Friends Freedmen's Association Records, 1863-1982 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Friends' Freedmen's Association was an organization of Philadelphia Quakers founded in 1863 as Friends' Association of Philadelphia and Its Vicinity, for the Relief of Colored Freemen. Its purpose was to provide relief and education to formerly enslaved people during and after the Civil War. The name was changed circa 1873. From 1947-1955 the Association supported black students in schools and summer work camps. From 1955-1970 the income from investments was used to provide grants for scholarship to needy black students. From 1970 income and principal was distributed yearly primarily among Bryn Mawr, Earlham, Guilford, and Haverford Colleges. In January 1982 the Association was dissolved. The funds were distributed among the four colleges named above to be used as aid to black students as the J. Henry Scattergood Scholarship Fund. Bryn Mawr College Posters for International Expositions Collection, 1893-1926 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Bryn Mawr College showcased its mission and prestigious programs at international expositions with an array of displayed materials. The awards in the collection demonstrate the success of these exhibitions and recognition of the high level of education provided to the undergraduate and graduate students in attendance at the college. The earliest exhibited materials in the collection were shown in 1893 at the Columbian Exposition in Chicago, where the college won an Educational Exhibit Award. Bryn Mawr was a relatively young institution at the time of the exposition in Chicago, having been open for less than ten years. In 1900, Bryn Mawr College had a more established reputation within the international community. The collection includes materials from the Paris exposition, though there are fewer materials in comparison with the St. Louis exhibit only four years later.
