Abstract:
Robert Bocking Stevens files, from ca. 1978 to June 1987, are the administrative files of Haverford's tenth President. Memoranda, correspondence, reports, and other material document his administration, particularly issues of diversity, improvements to the academic program and administrative functions, cooperation with Bryn Mawr College, fund raising, and the college's Quaker foundation.

Abstract:
The John R. Coleman files, 1967-1977, document the presidency of Haverford's ninth President. These are only a selection of the president's files. Although they do not give a full record of Coleman's administration, there is substantial information on Haverford's response to the Vietnam War and the debate over bringing coeducation to the college. Debates over diversity, governance, and curriculum are also found in Coleman's files.

Small file of correspondence and memoranda on a range of subjects, including: responses to letters on his appointment at Haverford and his departure from Macalester College; reunion organizing committees; Natural Sciences facilities, including reports from other campuses; Task Force on World Wide Web; plan for application to Ford Foundation "crossing borders" initiative; letters of recommendation. Also Senior Staff meetings agenda, minutes and background material for weekly meetings of college President, Provost, Dean, V. P. Institutional Advancement, V. P. Finance and Administration, Director of Admissions, Director of Athletics on a variety of administrative topics, including observance of Martin Luther King Day, with goals for the year for each senior staff member.

Hugh Borton presidential papers, 1942-1967 (inclusive) 1957-1967 (bulk)

Abstract:
The papers of Hugh Borton, Haverford's president from 1957 to 1967, are arranged in three series. The Alphabetical series consists of a small and random selection of his office files. They help to document Borton's efforts to move the college to an expanded student body, his support of academic freedom from government intrusions, and a growing cooperative program with Bryn Mawr and Swarthmore Colleges. The Affiliations series relate to his work with U.S.-Asian, particularly U.S.-Japanese, organizations, the Society of Friends, and higher education groups. The third series is a small group of files on some of his activities before assuming the Haverford presidency.

Gilbert White presidential papers, 1944-1955 (inclusive) 1946-1955 (bulk)

Abstract:
Gilbert Fowler White's papers are sparse and provide little documentation of what was a very popular presidency. Their transfer to the archives appears to have been totally random, with a portion found as part of a transfer of Provost records. They have been placed in one alphabetical arrangement. There is some information on the efforts for Haverford, Bryn Mawr, and Swarthmore cooperation, the response to the Korean War, and curriculum considerations. Correspondence on White's appointment and his resignation and the letters of appreciation written for the Haverford News give some indications of the College community's expectations for his presidency and his success in meeting those expectations. The texts and notes for his speeches to Haverford audiences, Quaker schools and organizations, government, civic, and professional groups do not provide additional documentation of his administration at Haverford, but do reveal his observations on education, world affairs, natural...(see more)

Felix Morley presidential papers, 1931-1980 (inclusive) 1940-1945 (bulk)

Abstract:
This is a small group of papers, 1940-1945, primarily relating to Haverford President Felix M. Morley's efforts to balance college support of the war without militarization. A portion of the files are from the files of Board member J. Henry Scattergood. Both the Morley and Scattergood material consist primarily of correspondence on bringing government subsidized non-combatant units to Haverford, as well as Haverford's own Relief and Reconstruction program. There is some information on his appointment and resignation as College president and some post-presidential correspondence.
