Abstract:

Dr. Ann Preston, a graduate of the first class of the Female Medical College of PA, initiated a course of lectures at Woman's Hospital of Philadelphia on nursing the sick in the 1860s. On February 1, 1908, an official School of Nursing began and hosted students until the school closed in 1980. As an artificial collection, the Woman's Medical College of Pennsylvania School of Nursing Records contains materials related to administration, recruitment, public events, and general education.

Gene-Ann Polk was a physician, hospital administrator, professor of pediatrics at Columbia University, and president of the Susan Smith McKinney Steward Medical Society. The materials in this collection are related to Dr. Polk's education, her private practice, and her years at Harlem Hospital. The collection also includes materials Polk collected related to Black women physicians, and the records of the Susan Smith McKinney Steward Medical Society (SSMS).

Medical College of Pennsylvania (MCP) vault contents collection, 1886-1996. In 2010, the collection was re-housed from an MCP vault on Henry Avenue to the Legacy Center Archives and Special Collections at the Drexel University College of Medicine. This extensive collection consists of financial materials related to the Woman's Medical College of Pennsylvania (WMCP), Medical College of Pennsylvania (MCP), Hahnemann University (HU), Allegheny Health Education and Research Foundation (AHERF), and Allegheny University (AU). Part of the collection focuses on WMCP endowment funds, bequests, grants, gifts, and contracts. Materials include notebooks, check receipts, transmittal documents, acknowledgment letters, correspondence, memoranda, copies of wills, and treasurer's accounts. Arthur Frank, MD, PhD, is an authority in occupational lung diseases associated with asbestos. He has spent most of his professional activity working in occupational medicine as a physician, researcher, lecturer, medical-legal expert witness, and a professor in higher education. Dr. Frank's papers document his personal and professional activities 1967-2023. This mixed format collection contains depositions of asbestos-related cases from around the United States and related medical-legal case reports; teaching and research materials; presentations, writing; correspondence; and objects, ephemera, photographs and artwork.
