Trustees of Old Eagle School records, 1865-2000s (bulk 1920s-1990s)

Abstract:: Old Eagle School is an 18th-century schoolhouse located in the community of Strafford, Pennsylvania, part of Tredyffrin Township, Chester County. Initially, donated by Jacob Sharraden, a German Lutheran, for 'religious and educational purposes,' the land also includes burial grounds with the remains of Revolutionary War soldiers. In 1895, after a legal dispute between the local community and the Tredyffrin School District over ownership of the schoolhouse, the title to the property was granted to a local group of trustees. As of 2016, Old Eagle School continues to be overseen by a board of trustees, who are responsible for the upkeep of the school and grounds, and is largely used for community events. Lillian Rankin papers, circa 1960-2005

Abstract:: Lillian Bassett Rankin (nee Stringfellow) was born in 1913 and died in 2009. A graduate of Beaver College (now Arcadia University) and later a teacher there, Rankin lived most of her life in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. A large proportion of the Lillian Rankin papers, circa 1960-2005, consists of photographs and slides. The collection also contains a sizeable amount of her notebooks and writings, and a small amount of financial records, correspondence, and Beaver College/Arcadia University alumni ephemera.

Abstract:: Montgomery County, situated in southeastern Pennsylvania and established in 1784 out of the western portion of Philadelphia County, has played an important role in U.S. history. Since its founding, it has experienced "booming industry and manufacturing, rich farm fields, advanced transportation, artistic endeavors and unique religious beliefs." The history of the area of eastern Montgomery County has been documented significantly through the collecting efforts of the Old York Road Historical Society. Abstract:: Norman W. Fesmire was chairman of the Lower Moreland Township Historical Architectural Review Board and his wife Sylvia co-founded the Pennickpacka Historical Society. Pennypack Ecological Restoration Trust records, 1971-2009 (inclusive)

Abstract:: The Pennypack Ecological Restoration Trust was established as the Pennypack Watershed Association in 1970. A public non-profit organization, it was dedicated to providing a unified approach for implementing sound environmental goals for the 56 square-mile Pennypack Creek area that extends through the suburbs of Bucks and eastern Montgomery Counties and into the highly urbanized areas of Northeast Philadelphia. The Pennypack Ecological Restoration Trust records, 1971-2009, chiefly consist of minutes reporting on land acquisition, finances, and programs and activities. There are also miscellaneous records relating to the organization's activities.

Mabel Detweiler files, 1958-1998 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Mabel Detweiler (1917-2005) was active in local Republican Party politics, particularly with the Eastern Montgomery Council of Republican Women for which she served as president from 1970 to 1973. She resided in Noble, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. The Mabel Detweiler files, 1958-1998, consist of campaign literature, circulars, programs, newsletters, clippings, and other ephemera relating to State and local elections, with some meeting notes and correspondence during the 1970-1973 period. The collection also includes some papers from Mabel's husband Russell's term as Abington Township Commissioner.
