This collection consists of the files of Mabel Detweiler (1917-2005), who was active in local Republican Party politics, particularly with the Eastern Montgomery Council of Republican Women for which she served as president from 1970 to 1973. The files consist of campaign literature, circulars, programs, newsletters, clippings, and other ephemera relating to State and local elections, with some meeting notes and correspondence during the 1970-1973 period. Other organizations represented in this material are the Abington Township-Rockledge Borough Republican Organization (ATRO) and the Montgomery County Republican Committee. There is some additional material reflecting her other activities, although selected files have been transferred to other record groups (see Allied Materials).

Mabel's husband Russell was also active in local politics and served as Abington Township Commissioner, 1969-1979. There is a small group of his papers as Commissioner that include documents relating to zoning questions, especially concerns with the Arthur Treacher's restaurant, and the 1980 Township budget proposal.

When the collection was acquired, it appeared that file drawers had been upended in the storage boxes. There was a basic chronological arrangement, with separate files kept for some subjects. This arrangement has been retained as best as possible.
