Sylvia Scudder (Bowditch) scrapbook, 1895-1906 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Sylvia Scudder (later Bowditch) was born in 1875. She was prepared by the Cambridge School for Girls in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She matriculated with the Bryn Mawr class of 1899, but received her degrees—in Greek and French—in 1901. From 1901-1902, she did graduate work in Greek at Radcliffe College. She taught Greek and English as the Bryn Mawr School in Baltimore, Maryland from 1902-1904. She married Ingersoll Bowditch in 1904. For 21 years, she was the treasurer of the Bryn Mawr Club of Boston, as well as being the collector and editor for her class. She passed away in 1964. The Sylvia Scudder Bowditch scrapbook houses Scudder's one volume scrapbook. The scrapbook contains materials from 1895 to 1906 and primarily contains photographs and other Bryn Mawr memorabilia.

Elizabeth Welbourn (Seccombe) scrapbook, 1935-1938 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Elizabeth Welbourn was a member of the Bryn Mawr class of 1938. After graduation, she studied at the Peabody Harp Institute at Johns Hopkins University. Playing harp was an integral part of her life: in addition to teaching the instrument, she was the president of the Bay Area Harp Association, and she played in local symphonies and at church. In 1940, Welbourn married Reverend Alfred Seccombe and the couple had four children together. She was involved in the Episcopal Church and numerous volunteer activities. This collection contains Welbourn's one volume scrapbook. The scrapbook covers Welbourn's last three years at college, from 1935-1938 and is mostly concerned with social memorabilia.

Abstract:: The Marie Leyendecker Cashel scrapbook houses the one volume scrapbook of Marie Leyendecker, Bryn Mawr class of 1944. The scrapbook roughly covers the years 1937 to 1944. It contains a great deal of material detailing the social life of an active high school and college age young woman—dances, teas, parties, theater, restaurants, outings in Pennsylvania, and NYC.

Angeline H. Lograsso papers, of materials from 1930s-1940s, some materials undated (bulk)

Extent:: 3.75 linear ft.
Abstract:: Angeline H. Lograsso taught Italian at Bryn Mawr for 35 years, also chairing the department from 1952-1965. This collection houses her papers. The majority of the materials in the collection come from the late 1930s and 1940s, but some are undated. The collection is useful for its insights into relief organizations in Italy during World War II and into the career of Don Luigi Sturzo, an anti-Fascist statesman, for whom Lograsso served as a secretary for some time.
