Overview and metadata sections

The Hermann Collitz papers consist primarily of the personal correspondence of Dr. Hermann Collitz, professor of Comparative Philology and German at Bryn Mawr from 1886-1908. The collection, which ranges from 1869-1913, contains Collitz' personal correspondence and other miscellaneous papers.

The collection consists of one box that contains five folders, as well as one "letter file," which is oversized.

Box 1 contains three folders of Collitz' personal correspondence in chronological order. The first folder is from 1869-1885; the second is from 1886-1890; and the third is from 1891-1913. The fourth folder contains undated personal correspondence. The fifth folder consists of miscellaneous papers: clippings, German exams, photographs, and other personal memorabilia. The "letter file" contains Collitz' correspondence from Sep. 1897-June 1900, which have been divided alphabetically.

After his time at Bryn Mawr, Collitz went on to teach at Johns Hopkins until 1927. Additionally, he was the editor of the American Journal of Philology and The Journal of English and German Philology. This collection would be of use for those interested in Collitz or the field of philology.

Box 1 contains correspondence aranged by date, and various personal memorabilia. Letter file has been arranged alphabetically.
