Abstract:: In conjunction with the United States Bicentennial Celebration in Philadelphia in 1976, Swarthmore College banded together with eleven other local colleges and universities to create the Area Universities' Bicentennial Exhibition, a public display titled "Learning, Revolution, and Democracy." This collection includes both internal Swarthmore documents about the college's contributions to the exhibit, as well as correspondence with other members of the University and College Consortium for the Bicentennial about coordinating plans.

Olga Lang Papers, 1940-1980 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Olga Lang (1897-1992) was a Russian Jew and Communist who lived in Nazi Germany, China, and, eventually, the United States. She taught Russian at Swarthmore College in the 1960s. After retiring from Swarthmore, she affiliated with Columbia University. The collection contains two versions of her unpublished manuscript "My Life in Germany Before and After January 30, 1933," and correspondence pertaining thereto, with some additional miscellaneous documents.

Abstract:: Harrison M. Wright taught history at Swarthmore College from 1957 to 1979 and from 1984 until his retirement in 1993. He was college provost from 1979 to 1984 and served as acting president during the 1980-81 academic year. This collection contains papers from the committees on which Wright served, as well as from faculty meetings and bulletins. Topics include renovations of college buildings, revisions of college rules, increasing radicalism/student activism on campus, disciplinary issues, curriculum debates, the SASS sit-in, faculty responses to the Cambodian crisis and the Vietnam War, and African-American faculty recruitment.
