Abstract:
George Treister (b. 1923) was a founding partner of Stutman, Treister, and Glatt. A graduate of Yale University Law School in 1949, Treister was a member of the Judicial Conference's Advisory Committee on Bankruptcy Rules and the National Bankruptcy Conference, where he served as Vice Chairman from 1971 to 1984. He is the author of a number of bankruptcy volumes, including "Recent Bankruptcy Decisions," a compendium of judicial decisions regarding bankruptcy legislation, used as educational material by nearly all major bankruptcy seminars. The collection comprises volumes of George Treister's "Recent Bankruptcy Decisions" from 1981 to 1990 and from 1992 to 1998.

Code of Criminal Procedure records, circa 1925-1959 (inclusive)

Abstract:
In March 1925, the American Law Institute (ALI) started the Code of Criminal Procedure project. The resulting volume attempted to provide a framework for effective administration of criminal law while maintaining protection for the rights of the accused. The collection, circa 1925-1959, includes drafts, correspondence, minutes, and other materials related to the drafting of the code, which outlined procedures for carrying out criminal law and defined the rights of the accused in areas such as arrest, bail, and execution.

David L. Bazelon Papers, 1941-1993 and undated (inclusive)

Abstract:
David Lionel Bazelon (1909-1993) graduated from Northwestern University Law School in 1932. In 1936, Bazelon joined the United States Attorney's Office in Chicago, where he specialized in tax cases. In 1949, President Harry S. Truman appointed Bazelon to the newly-created United States Court of Appeals for the District Columbia, making Bazelon, at forty years old, one of the youngest people ever appointed to a federal judgeship. He served on the court from 1949 to 1984, acting as Chief Judge from 1962 to 1978. During this time the Circuit Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia was often considered the nation's second highest court. In his years on the court Bazelon was involved in decisions on matters ranging from the use of DDT to the definition of insanity. In the mid-1980s Bazelon stopped hearing cases and finally retired from the bench. He died on February 19, 1993, of Alzheimer's disease. Abstract:
This collection contains a series of files concerning criminal law statutes and codes in the United States in the early 20th century. Contains a collection of prospective penal code articles and revisions, transcripts from various commissions for criminal code reform and revision, several academic studies on criminal law and youth crime, several copies of proposed or actual laws, personal handwritten notes on criminal law reform, newspaper clippings, and a few pieces of personal correspondence.

Myra Jessen papers, undated

Abstract:
Myra Stephannie Richards Jessen (1893-1985) graduated from Bryn Mawr in 1915. She worked as a German and Latin instructor at the Baldwin School in Bryn Mawr, and then as a German Instructor at Bryn Mawr College, where she also pursued her graduate studies in German. She received her Ph.D. from Bryn Mawr in 1932. In 1952 she was appointed head of the college's German department. This collection, which is undated, consists primarily of research notes on Franz Grillparzer, an Austrian dramatist of the Biedermeier period. The collection includes Jessen's unpublished manuscript on Grillparzer entitled "Lehrhafte Formulieung im Grillparserschen Drama," and correspondence related to her research. Also included are grade books for German courses, exams, student recommendations, and correspondence with students, faculty, and alumnae committees.

Abstract:
This collection contains prints and book fragments that contain mostly or entirely text (rather than images). Included here are Quaker Announcements, 18th century newspapers (The Tatler), Civil War era ephemera, modern letterpress and print studio materials, illustrations for books, announcements and posters, and single sheets from books. Part of the collection was already processed at an earlier date (Series "Previously Sorted"), and seems to be related to early American print history, with several interesting and valuable items. The other two folders contain more eclectic materials that do not share a clear connecting logic.

Adelman Oversized Prints, undated (inclusive)

Abstract:
This box contains miscelleneous oversized materials from Seymour Adelman. Folder 1 contains 15 architectural prints: Mostly achitecture details of churches, as well as a few full views of churches. The folder contains etchings and lithographs, one print is hand colored. Folder 2 contains two portraits, one lithograph and one drawing by an unknown artist. Folder 3 contains A series of "Old Farmer Giles Rhyme Sheets" and a single title page "Graduale Romanum ad Normam Missalis exhibens Proprium Missarum de Tempore edito omnium pulcherrima." Folder 4 contains various exhibition posters - undated but likely from the 1960s and 1970s.

Blair Birdsall Papers, Inclusive Dates

Abstract:
This collection contains the technical and professional documents of consulting engineer Blair Birdsall. Most of the collection are documents pertaining to the multitude of bridges he worked on, including the Golden Gate, Chesapeake Bay, and Brooklyn Bridges, as a consulting engineer or as a design engineer. The collection spans from 1900 to 2002 covering his entire career and also early Steinman Boynton Gronquist & Birdsall and John A. Roebling Sons Engineering companies.

Newspaper Caricatures about the Henry Ward Beecher Trial

Abstract:
A selective collection of newspaper caricatures, cartoons, sketches and portraits of the Beecher family especially related to the scandalous adultery trial in 1875 involving the Reverend Henry Ward Beecher and Mrs. Elizabeth Tilton. Beecher was the younger brother of Harriet Beecher Stowe, author of "Uncle Tom's Cabin." The entire Beecher family was involved in the abolition cause. The collection of illustrations bound in this volume are an interesting evidence of the public opinion of the era.

Civil War Letters and Memorabilia Collected by John Henry Stuckey

Abstract:
Collection of United States Civil War letters primarily between the families of Joseph D. Richardson (Beverly, NJ), Lloyd Girton and Francis Rupert (Bloomsburg, PA) including responding letters and one additional letter from a Confederate soldier William T. Bickham (Franklintown, LA). Also included are patriotic iconography envelopes - some with or without stamps and related references used by the Civil War enthusiast who assembled the letters and related reference material.
