Abstract:: Edith Nunan was a librarian at Philadelphia General Hospital. This collection contains publications, correspondence, and other materials related to Philadelphia General Hospital's Training School for Nurses and its nurse graduates. This collection also includes the records of a Nurse Biography Project, which documented significant nurses, as well as Nunan's collection of non-PGH materials related to nursing history.

Abstract:: Dorothy Ann Mereness, R.N., Ed.D., F.A.A.N., was Dean of the School of Nursing, University of Pennsylvania from 1965 to 1977 and a pioneer in the development of psychiatric nursing. This collection consists of personal papers and institutional files. The personal papers document Mereness's professional development. Although largely incomplete, the organizational files show the extent of Mereness's involvement in the development of nursing at both regional and national levels.

Abstract:: This collection documents the founding, flourishing and eventual closing of the Presbyterian School of Nursing, a hospital-based nursing school in Philadelphia. The hospital itself was founded in 1871 under the sponsorship of the Presbyterian Church. Its nurse training program was begun in 1889. The collection's strength is the relative completeness of student records, good documentation of the school's curricula and teaching materials. The supportive role both the Ladies Aid Society and the Alumni Association played in the growth of the School are evident in these records.

Annie Warburton Goodrich papers, 1871-1955 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Annie Warburton Goodrich is best known for establishing the United States Student Nurse Reserve, more commonly known as the Army School of Nursing, in 1918-1919. She later became the first dean of the Yale University School of Nursing. Her papers include files of organizations with which she associated, biographical material, miscellaneous documents, and photographs. The collection also includes a typed manuscript of Harriett Rose (Berger) Koch's biography, America's Militant Angel.

Abstract:: This collection documents the Brandywine Home Health Agency, Inc. from its inception through its subsequent growth during social, environmental, and legislative changes. As a non-profit volunteer agency, BHHA was conscious of its responsibility to foster innovative and relevant programs. Thus as health needs and technology evolved, it progressed accordingly. Over time, it became a multi-service agency delivering three categories of service: therapeutic, supportive, and preventative.
