Abstract:: The Gibbons family were Quakers in the Chester County / Delaware County area. They were heavily involved in philanthropic work, donating funds for a Sunday School to Swarthmore Presbyterian Church, and founding the Gibbons Home. This collection is composed of Gibbons family images--portraits of individuals, travel photos, and prints/photos of residences, among others. Card photos, tintypes, a few loose color photographs, and others are found in this collection.

Philadelphia Yearly Meeting workcamps photographs, 1950-2002 (inclusive)

Abstract:: The Weekend Workcamps Program originated on the eve of World War II. It provides volunteers and opportunity to work in an inner city community, interact with neighbors, and dialog on peace and justice issues. Today the Friends' Workcamp Program operates under the auspices of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting's Standing Committee on Peace and Concerns. This collection includes miscellaneous photographs, primarily of Weekend Workcamps in the Philadelphia area, but also has some images of international workcamps and other projects.

Abstract:: Mary Cushing (Howard) Niles (1900-1993) was a pioneer in the field of personnel management, and her husband, Henry E. Niles (1900-1993), was a management executive. Both were active in Quaker concerns. This collection includes formal portraits of family members, career-related pictures, travel photos, family photos, photos of family friends, and miscellaneous photos, along with slides and negatives.

Anna Gillingham photographs, 1870-1953 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Anna Gillingham (1878-1964) was a prominent Quaker educator and author. She taught at Friends Central School in Philadelphia from 1901-05, was school psychologist in the Ethical Culture School in New York City from 1905-36, directed the remedial reading program at the Punahon School in Honolulu from 1936-38, and was a consultant on remedial reading after 1938. She also co-authored a book on remedial training for children with Stillman. She was co-founder of the Orton Society, a national organization promoting research and treatment of language disabilities. This collection contains black and white photos from Anna Gillingham's work, life, and travel.

Abstract:: Mary Sullivan Patterson (1906-1987) was a Quaker historian and genealogist from Swarthmore, Pennsylvania. This collection includes photographs from Mary Sullivan Patterson's life, including her time at Swarthmore College, as well as family photographs and photographs of Quaker meeting houses.

Willets-Lapham family photographs, 1866-1971 (inclusive)

Abstract:: The Willets family were members of Westbury Monthly Meeting (New York) and lived at their farm, Homewood, from the mid 19th century until 1965. Eliza K. Willets, the last resident, was the daughter of Thomas Whitson Willets and Hannah Keese; known affectionately as Aunt Lila, she graduated from Swarthmore College in 1893. Her sister, Anna, married Edward Morgan Lapham of Chicago in 1908. In 1940, their daughter, Anne Willets Lapham, married E. Wayne Frazer, the son of John E. and Elizabeth Gamber Frazer, and moved to Pennsylvania. This collection contains two dismantled family photo albums, one bound photo album, and a panorama.

Scattergood Hostel and Scattergood Friends School photographs, 1915-1953 (inclusive)

Extent:: .3 cubic ft. (1 box; stored with pa161, pa162, and pa164.)
Abstract:: Scattergood Friends School opened in Iowa in 1890. The school closed during the Great Depression, and was repurposed during World War II as Scattergood Hostel to acclimate refugees from Europe. In 1944, it reopened as a school and remains open today. The bulk of this collection is photographs of Scattergood Refugee Hostel, but there are also photographs of pre-war and post-war Scattergood Friends School.

George B. Jackson family photographs, 1860-1990 (inclusive)

Abstract:: George B. Jackson, Swarthmore College Class of 1921, was a businessman and a member of New York Monthly Meeting. His grandfather, William Morris Jackson, was a Quaker businessman, reformer, and Trustee of Swarthmore College. This collection contains portraits of various Jackson family members, alongside a few miscellaneous photographs, all black and white.

Leandre Jackson photographs of Black student life at Swarthmore College, 1970-1995 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Leandre Jackson, a professional photographer, graduated from Swarthmore College in 1975 and served as Director of Swarthmore's Black Cultural Center 1975-1977 (full time from 1975-1976 and part time from 1976-1977. This collection consist of photographs taken by Leandre Jackson and displayed in a February 2015 exhibition at the Swarthmore College Library entitled "Proof of Black Life."
