Abstract:: The John family is a Quaker family of Uwchlan and Shamokin Valley in Pennsylvania. Some of the family later moved to Illinois but continued to be active in Friends organizations. This collection consists primarily of card photos of the John family, along with some prints and negatives of scenes.

Rebecca Timbres Clark photographs, 1853-1999 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Rebecca Timbres Clark (1896-2000) was a Quaker nurse and social worker. She and her first husband, Harry Garland Timbres (1899-1937), performed relief work under the auspices of the AFSC in Eastern Europe in 1921-22 and worked with Rabindranath Tagore in Bengal, India, in 1931-34. In 1936-1937, the couple worked in the malaria unit in Soviet Russia. After Harry Timbres' death, Rebecca returned to the U.S. She married Edgar Sydenham Clark (1885-1961) on July 2, 1943, and the couple moved to Honolulu, Hawaii, in 1947, where Rebecca worked as a medical social worker. This collection includes photographs of family and friends as well as snapshots of Russia and Poland.

Brooks family photographs, 1790-1992 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Involved in this collection are Morgan Brooks (1861-1947), a professor of engineering, and his wife, Frona Marie (Brooks) Brooks (1861-1947). One of their children, Charles Franklin Brooks (1891-1958), became a member of the Society of Friends shortly after marrying Eleanor M. Stabler (1892-1986) in 1914. Their daughter, Barbara Brooks (1922-2007), married Edward H. Kerner, and she was active in Quaker concerns, particularly peace. This collection contains loose photgraphs, albums, and photos of family groups, among others.

Abstract:: Frances Bradshaw Blanshard attended Smith College and later became dean of women at Swarthmore College. She also had ties to Yale University, where her husband (Brand Blanshard) was a philosophy professor. Paul M. Pearson and Drew Pearson photographs, 1890-1938 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Paul M. Pearson (1871-1938) was a noted Quaker educator, editor, and speaker, a professor of Public Speaking at Swarthmore College, the first civilian governor of the U.S. Virgin Islands, an assistant director of the U.S. Housing Authority, and a leading founder and executive in the Chautauqua movement. His son, Drew Pearson (1897-1969), was a syndicated national columnist. This collection contains photographs of the following subjects mostly related to Paul M. Pearson's life and work: Swarthmore Chautauqua, Virgin Islands, Oglebay Park and Institute, Photographs for Drew Pearson Articles, and Miscellaneous (including personal photographs).

J. Passmore Elkinton lantern slides, 1900-1960 (inclusive)

Abstract:: J. (Joseph) Passmore Elkinton was active in the Society of Friends in the Midwest and traveled to Japan and China on religious visits. His sister, Mary Passmore Elkinton, married the Japanese diplomat, Dr. Inazo Nitobe, in 1891. This collection contains lantern slides from J. Passmore's time in Japan.
