Overview and metadata sections

J. (Joseph) Passmore Elkinton was active in the Society of Friends in the Midwest and traveled to Japan and China on religious visits. His sister, Mary Passmore Elkinton, married the Japanese diplomat, Dr. Inazo Nitobe, in 1891.

This collection contains lantern slides from J. Passmore's time in Japan. The slides are in color and depict various sites and scenes in Japan. Elkinton probably used the slides to share his time in Japan with Friends at home.
